In a land far, far away was a kingdom, Zootopia. Zootopia is habitational to Lord Atticus and Lady Matilda, who long for a child. Soon Lady Matilda had a child on a rainy day. Lady had a baby girl who was as ashen as snow, as red as blood, and as black as pitch. On account of this, baby’s tag was Snow. And as soon as Snow was born, Lady Matilda drowns. Some suspect it was Lord Atticus’s youthful consort who took Lady Matilda’s soul that night. Although, Lady Nora didn’t know Lord Atticus in old days. Lady Nora had a magic mirror, it’s tag was, Arnold. Lady Nora would stand in front of Arnold and say: “Mirror, mirror, in its spot who in this land is most candid of all?” To this, Arnold would say: “You, my Lady, are most candid of all.”

    In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird Atticus Finch, a well-respected defense attorney in Macomb County, made a life-altering decision to whole-heartedly defend a benevolent black man, Tom Robinson, who was wrongly accused of rape. Many conflicts arose because of Atticus’s choice to defend a black man against a white man’s word. Despite the towns cowardice and ridicule, Atticus stays true to what is right. “They're certainly entitled to think that, and they're entitled to full respect for their opinions... but before I can live with other folks I've got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience” (140). Throughout the story Scout, Atticus’s daughter, transforms from a trouble maker always looking to pick a fight with anyone she disagreed with, into a young lady who was able to follow her father’s example and “consider things from his point of view... you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it” (30). Through Atticus’s wise, unchanging character, the theme is revealed. The bond between Atticus and Scout teaches her the one thing that he was trying to do all along: Don’t just fight; stand up and fight for what is right, no matter what the cost.

Others who demonstrated enough courage to stand up to protect these victims of racism were also risked with lynching. Shown through his acts of defending whom the antagonists despise, thus going against society itself. The children also present their own acts of courage, when they do the same as their father, whom concurrently taught them his version of courage. A courage without guns, or violence, but rather a courage of words, and the need to protect someone. As it would seem, the author of the story To Kill a Mockingbird would express courage only through the Protagonists and those whom they try to protect.
