After analyzing the literacy narrative "Proficiency" by Shannon Nichols, I have came across with two disturbing points. First, Shannon really cares about her grades and get jealous whenever someone else gets better grade than her. Second of all, the tools she's using are not helping her to get better at writing. When she says, "The test ultimately determines whether students may receive a high school diploma...I never had a GPA below 3.0. I was smart...I had disappointed my family." It shows that Shannon is taught (by her parents) to think in conservative way; which is get good grades, get the diploma and you will get a decent job.
