Life Is Beautiful Response

The movie Life is Beautiful would not be a good film to show for the class. This is because the movie is like a comedy during a time that was anything but funny. Some events in the movie shown are the exact opposite of what would have happened in real life. I would not say this is a wise movie because of the joking nature, some events that would or would not happen, and how the movie hid the real violence. The joking in this movie makes it an unwise movie to show. There were many people who would try to keep everyone's morale up in camps, but Guido would definitely take it too far. Multiple times, when everyone is being marched in front of the soldiers, Guido would do a stereotypical march which definitely would have gotten him shot. The …show more content…

Many of the events in the movie would either have not been allowed to happen o would have completely different outcomes. The easiest example of this was when Guido and Giosué found the intercom unattended and used it to speak to his wife on the other side of the camp. There definitely would have been a guard in the room or near it so this wouldn't have happened. In the real Holocaust, they would have been shot immediately for doing something like that. A second example would be when Guido is explaining what the SS officer was saying in their bunk room. None of the other prisoners would have just sat there while he was trying to convince his son they're still in a game, because the officer was explaining the only way they could survive. They would have said something to the officer, which could have a bad result for Guido joking around, or another prisoner would have told him to sit down and interpreted. Also, the other prisoners would act cold to Guido because if he got in trouble, usually everyone got in trouble so they would have shut him up …show more content…

No matter what type of camp, violence and death were every day occurrences. The only instances of violence or death is shown off screen. When Dora is walking down the staircase, the women next to her tells her that one day, someone will say "come on kids lets go play" and take them to their deaths. This moment tells about the violence and death which takes place in the camps, but not being able to see it would not hold the true horror of the actual action. Another instance where death is hidden is when Guido is killed. He disguised himself as a woman to look for his wife. He could not find her after many attempts, and a spotlight is fixed on him. Eventually a guard chases him down right in front of the locker Giosué is hiding in, and is taken behind a wall and shot. We know that Guido is killed, but he would most likely have not been walked so far to be killed. He most likely would have been shot on the spot or would have been killed as an example to the other prisoners if they weren't in the process of leaving due to the advancing front. This movie again is not wise to show because it mentions death and suffering, but it doesn't show anything actually
