Graduating High school is a milestone for many, it’s a step into the world full of opportunities and the next step to pursuing higher education. Many students begin the process of figuring out what college they would like to attend prior to even graduating, this is something that is instilled in students all throughout their years of schooling. Most high school students know what college they want to in their junior year of high school, while others conduct extensive research. Students want to attend a school that they can call their second home, especially because some students move away from home to pursue further education. In Edmundson’s essay “On the Uses of liberal education”, he talks about colleges loosing up and students having a choice on what teachers they want. Not all students learn the same, there are many different teaching styles, which is why giving students an options can be agreeable. There are teachers that tend to use real life experiences as a teaching technique. This technique allows students to relate and better understand the subjects being taught. Many students learn best when they feel a connection, it allows them to open their mind a little more and to connect with their teacher on a personal level. Being kind and understanding does not mean you are being too soft, it means you care and want to make an impact on your student’s life. It is customary for people to do their research and read reviews when purchasing a car or pair of new shoes. A persons thoughts on things is a contributing factor in today’s world which can save you money and time in the long run. This is the same with teacher evaluations, although these are all opinions of one’s teaching, there are still students out there that sincerely write evaluations explaining the impact a teacher has made on their overall success in education. Entering the world of college can be a scary thing and reading about others accomplishments can boost a person’s confidence onto taking the next big step in their life.
