I am a twenty four year old female with an Associate of Arts with Emphasis in Arts and Humanities and an Associate of Science in Child Development from Rio Hondo Community College. I am currently finishing up my Undergraduate Degree in Liberal Studies at California Polytechnic University Pomona. In addition, I hold a Teacher’s Permit in Child Development from the Commission of Teacher Credentialing. I am currently pursuing a Masters in Child Development at Cal State LA because I want to be a future educator focusing in the field of Early Childhood Education.
I am very intrigued and interested in working with children and their families among the diverse cultures educators encounter today. At the age of fourteen, I began assisting in teaching dance classes to younger students in the studio I was attending. As time went on I began teaching choreography to my own peers. As soon as I graduated high school and began community college at Rio Hondo I began taking classes in general education along with dance classes. I soon began to work on my own student choreography. I fell in love with teaching others at that point and soon became a tutor in the Learning Assistance Center at Rio Hondo. This was a point of transition in my life where I was exposed to a new type of teaching. A teacher that required me to work with a diverse group of individuals, a teacher that challenged me to think differently in my approach to others and the approach I took to presenting material in such a way they could be successful in areas they were struggling with. I would like to find out the positive and negative effect technology carries on children’s development. I would also like to find out if we can reverse those negative effects and what gains can be made for children who are more inclined to use technology. In addition what impact does technology have in a Kinder through twelve learning environment and how is it shifting curriculum of other generations.
At this time my career goal is to get my Masters and gain experience in the field of child development. I am not closing the door on getting a Doctoral degree but I would like to gain hands on experience and start making a difference before I enter a doctoral program in this field.

Many individuals, teachers or not, only do what they are asked or expected to do. However, going above and beyond and being able to have greater influence on a child’s life is my goal. Upon completion of receiving my degree, I plan on applying to both the University of Pennsylvania and Texas A & M in hopes of completing my goals within two to three years. At this time my husband and I will also be trying to secure our families future by purchasing a home near my work. Additionally my husband and I are in the process of filling for a green card so my mother can become a citizen of the United States. After graduating college it is time to hit the real world, so it’s time to begin of what I want to do for a living. The career I’m striving to achieve is to become an elementary teacher or middle school teacher. Becoming a teacher would be fantastic, it’s a job I know I would enjoy and I’m passionate about. Being able to help young students learn new things every day would be amazing, knowing that in elementary years it is the foundation of a student’s education. Since I was a little girl I’ve always wanted to have my own classroom and teach kids. Most kids avoid school in all ways, but that is where I want to be for the rest of my life. After high school I am planning on furthering my education at a university to become a teacher myself. I’m majoring in Early Childhood Education (grades K-4) and also Special Education.
I wanted to start making a difference in kids as soon as I had the chance. I started to take Early Childhood Education classes at my school. This course was rigorous and so important, due to the fact we ran a preschool of 20 four and five-year old’s. Their education was in our hands; we were that building block for their first insight on school. I feel in love with writing lesson plans and being hand in hand with other teachers and the students became a part of my life that I never wanted to go away. I interned at an elementary school just to get more involved and learn more about collaborating. I started taking a Teaching as a Profession class, so I could not only know today’s education but become familiar with the history of education, how to accommodate your classroom for students with special needs, and the issues in todays education. I completed this class and took the state mandated test to complete the pathway and get a cord at graduation. I came in on Sundays to work and study with my teacher for this test and it all paid off when I passed the test with the highest score out of the nine people who took the test. While this was all happening I was inducted into National Beta Club for my grades and averages in my classes, which mostly included advanced courses. I then completed the Early
Many people have a wide range of opinions on whether technology is having a positive influence on our children or a negative, there is a vast amount of evidence to support both of these arguments. Technology can refer to so many things, but there are three main parts of technology that have the greatest effect on our children: video games, television/media, and computers. The modern technologies we have today are so powerful because they attract our genetic biases, that the human brain has a tremendous love for visually presented information. Video games, television, movies and computer programs are all very visually oriented and therefore they attract and keep the attention of children easily. By far the largest concern of technology today is video games.
I desire to continue my education after graduating from State College with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, pursuing a master’s degree in elementary education, possibly majoring in science or history. With a teaching profession, the sky is the limit at what can be achieved. There has been a long lasting debate in the resent years on whether or not technology has a positive or negative impact on today’s kids. As the years move on, the negative effects have begun to outnumber the positive. The generations previous spent their childhood making forts, fishing, and using their imaginations, contrary to today’s generations who spend their free time texting, playing video games, and watching videos. My beliefs and values about early childhood education is based upon understanding that all children are unique individuals who need a caring, nurturing, and secure environment in which to grow and develop socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically. Children under the age of three are in critical stages of development, it is my belief that a quality child care environment will have a positive impact on a child’s development and make a significant difference in the life of a child and his or her family. My philosophy of early childhood education and the elements I believe are necessary in developing a developmentally appropriate child care environment is rooted in my views and beliefs about experimentalism, progressivism, multiculturalism, and the influence of philosophers such as Dewey, Piaget, Montessori, and Vygotsky. Furthermore, I believe young children will thrive and grow in developmentally appropriate child care programs that possess the following elements: (1) teachers who see themselves as intentional, responsive and respectful facilitators of learning, (2) the ability to build a community of learners, (3) implement an effective curriculum that allow children to explore their natural curiosity about the world.
Technology affects everyone - and everyone! Whether positive or negative, we are all affected, how it manifests itself into problems for youth will be studied and debated for years. Balancing technology throughout the educational process and keeping with current trends and uses of technology will affect everyone. Technology has transformed our youth’s daily and social lives. How do we measure the effects of technology on our ability to socialize or have a successful social life?
Technology in education is a touchy subject in the United States. Many parents believe that technology will only hurt their child in future, while some believe that technology will help their child.
