I think Leonardo Di Vinci was the greatest artist of them all. The first reason he is the greatest is he had the concept of the tank and helicopter. In the DBQ it says “ During the last three years of his life Leonardo spent most of his time sketching and working on his scientific studies.” This shows he had the time to figure out the concept of the tank and helicopter. The The Renaissance lasted from 1350 to 1550 and was known as the rebirth of knowledge in urban society. After the Middle ages occurred there was no education, no common language, and no true form of unity within the people of Europe, so the Renaissance was the reintroduction of education, language, urban society and a sense of togetherness within the countries of Europe. Leonardo Da Vinci was born April 15 1452, to Caterina Da Vinci and Piero Frusino di Antonio Da Vinci. He was a popular Italian Renaissance polymath. A polymath is someone that has mastered several different subject areas. His interest included invention, painting, sculpting, architecture, science, music, mathematics, engineering, and literature; just to name a few. He has been variously called father of palaeontology, which is the study of life that once existed. He is widely considered one of the greatest painters of all time, and was often credited with the invention of the parachute, helicopter and the tank.
One of his creations was the flying machine. He loved the idea of people soaring like birds and wanted to make that dream a reality. The designs of the flying machine is clearly inspired by the wings of animals that could fly. Leonardo da Vinci’s flying machine has a wingspan of over 33 feet. The frame of the machine was made out of pine that was covered in silk. A sleek and light design that also proved to be sturdy. The way the machine worked is the pilot would lie face down on the board and he would have pedal a crank that was connected to a rod-and-pulley system. There was also a hand crank that was available. This was used for additional energy and the steering was done with a head piece. The pilot was to work the crank with both his hands and feet at the same time. Doing so would cause the wings to flap. A unique feature was the wings were designed to twist when they flapped. This design was an inspiration from nature. Besides his flying machine, he also conceived the idea for a parachute. Although credit for the first parachute doesn't formally go to Leonardo da Vinci he did create the design for it a couple hundred years before it was actually invented. Leonardo da Vinci began life as the illegitimate child of a rich man and a poor girl, he possessed talents and skills far greater than his 12 brothers and sisters, his discoveries are still used today and his art is still admired. Leonardo was a genius people still admire his art and use his discoveries. He is not only a renaissance man he is an inspiration to people of all races and of all religions. He inspires male and female, homosexuals and heterosexuals, republicans and democrats. At the time of Raphale’s birth, Urbino was a cultural center that encouraged the Arts. Raphael’s father, Giovanni Santi, was a painter for the Duke of Urbino, Federigo da Montefeltro. Giovanni taught his young son Raphael basic painting techniques and exposed him to the principles of humanistic philosophy at the Duke of Urbino’s court. In 1494, when Raphael was just 11 years old, Giovanni died. Raphael then took over the daunting task of managing his father’s workshop. His success in this role quickly surpassed his father’s. Raphael was soon considered one of the finest painters in town. As a teen, he was even commissioned to paint for the Church of San Nicola in the neighboring town of Castello.
