LeAnn Rimes The journey of LeAnn Rimes and her rise to stardom have influenced music today. Rimes said, “I’ve always told myself since I was a little girl that if there’s one thing I wanted, it was for everyone around the world to know who I was” (Tucker). LeAnn has certainly lived up to these expectations, and she serves as a role model to young artists. LeAnn Rimes was born in Jackson, Mississippi and is the only child of Wilbur and Belinda Rimes. She was born on August 28, 1982. Her real name is Margaret LeAnn Rimes. “At age six LeAnn wins her first talent contest performing “Getting to Know You” (Wang). “In 1994, at eleven years old Rimes recorded her first album All That” (“LeAnn Rimes”). Rimes signed with Curb records to record her album Blue in 1996. Her album Blue sold more than 123,000 copies withing the first week. “Rimes made a big motion picturing action debut in the film Coyote Ugly” (“LeAnn Rimes”). Rimes says one of her greatest accomplishments was the song, This Woman. “Rimes got 1996 Best New Artist Grammy that a country musician has never achieved before” (“LeAnn Rimes”). LeAnn also won five Billboard awards. LeAnn Rimes song, Blue, was named song of the year by the Academy of Country Music. In 1997, Rimes starred in a television movie called Holiday in Your Heart. When LeAnn Rimes released the song, You Light Up My Life, this helped her to be the biggest- selling recording artist. Even today Rimes plays a big role in the music industry. She performed the national anthem at the Dallas Cowboy football game, and she also traveled to Europe for a Thanksgiving concert for Pope John Paul II. “Rimes and her husband have written two successful children books, Jags and Jag’s New Friend” (Siegler). “Her books are about a young jaguar with problems at school” (Siegler).
