There are many types of leadership styles in military, however, depends on which leadership style a leader choose and how to utilize it, it will affects mission, morale, loyalty, respect, trust, and team work. There are many good and bad leaders in the military, and their subordinates are affected by those leaders. Becoming a good leader is not an easy task; it takes experience, knowledge, and able to motivate Soldiers to do things beyond their capability especially during in combat operation. Many bad leaders only care about themselves. Analyst Gillian Flynn provides a particularly descriptive definition of a toxic manager; he is the "manager who bullies, threatens, yells (Reed). Effective leaders are flexible enough to correct their leadership style and skills to the people they lead. There are five leadership styles in the military. Those styles are directing, participating, delegating, transformational, and transactional.
Directing leadership style is basically leader centered. Some leaders using this style do not ask input from subordinates and give detailed instructions on how, when, and where they want a task performed. This style of leader to be effective, he or she must mastered many interpersonal, conceptual, technical, and tactical skills. Also this type of style is good when there is no time and do not have time to explain the reason.
Participating leadership style centers on both the leader and the team. When a missing has been given, leaders ask subordinates for input, information, and recommendations but the leader makes the final decision. This style is particularly suitable for leaders who have the time for discussion or who are dealing with experienced
