Leadership Reflection: How I Learned To Becoming A Team Leader

During the course of the past seven weeks, I have learned there are many different facets to the criteria of being a dynamic leader through our reading, open discussion, and completing assessments each week, which was a culmination of reviewing my personality traits, strengths, weaknesses, and interpreting the data to determine my leadership effectiveness. I have discovered that I am developing into a Team Leader after reviewing the assessments I realize that there is value in developing skills that will assist employees grow. I have a strong sense of what builds a team and how to delegate work and responsibility, but I could be stronger in incorporating the organizations vision into my training methods. The TED talk video with Simon Sinek really captured my attention and made me more aware of what a real leader should be for an organization. (YouTube). Sinek gave us valid evidence that a leader can create either a successful team or completely shut down their functionality. My organization is a manufacturing company for making wheel loaders, dozers, trucks, and excavators and chapter nine of our book resonated with me since it spoke about Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Checklists, and ISO standards. All of these items have been implemented by a vision from our CEO and I understand more today, than I did seven weeks ago that his ability to formulate the vision is the start of the equation which was shown in the video by Professor Gill, for our Leadership class. Professor Gill was able to explain all of the criteria needed for a successful organization and it all starts with the leadership. You can be strong in statesmanship and weak in innovation as a leader, but it is important to identify your weakness to surround yourself with other leaders who have the strength you are lacking. …show more content…

For the next six months, I will be immersed in understanding the weakness and strengths of our new corporate tool. I will participate in brain storming session, writing requirements, establishing best practices and working within the prototype. This assignment is critical for our organization and will allow our work to become more streamlined and will benefit our global partners around the globe. I get excited that I have this opportunity, but I am very conscious of the responsibility, therefore, I will collaborate with my team, my extended team in India, and with our global business units to ensure I am developing processes that will truly benefit them and not create bottle necks, which may increase costs or lower or expected level of quality. I will also direct my attention toward the adversity which currently exists within our small group because of downsizing. This will include approaching management providing them ideas to develop our team in a proactive manner, rather than allowing us to continue with goals which are not technically smart goals. The actions and results defined are not building confidence in our employees, but are causation for confusion and inaction.
