A brief plot review (no more than 50 words). Mary Maloney is a typical housewife who anxiously waits for her husband. Her feelings are twisted one day as she engages in a mysterious conversation with her partner. This ultimately leads to a series of unfortunate events, where the protagonist spins a false tale altering her fate as a murderer to victim. Where/When is the story set? Are you familiar with this place and time? What effect did this have on your enjoyment of the story? The story begins in the home of Mary Maloney and her husband Patrick, and is most likely set in a british or american home during the 1950’s (Post World War II). A time where black humour began to flourish in both literature and television. Though I am not quite familiar with this setting, it did manage in to invoke elements of satire in a less serious way, making the short story seem more enjoyable. …show more content…

Did you like him/her? What qualities did he or she have that led to this? Provide an example from the story that showed this. Mary Maloney is the protagonist of Roald Dahl’s ‘Lamb to the Slaughter’. I particularly like her character because she was quite unique. From how she kept changing yet still managed to act, whilst gaining little suspicion. At first she was a plain character who relied and devoted her life towards serving her husband. Mary then becomes interesting when she beings to think for herself, and releases all the anger that she suppressed all those years. In my opinion Mary was a pitiful character who just wanted to be loved. "For God's sake," he said, hearing her, but not turning round; "Don't make supper for me. I'm going out." At that point, Mary Maloney simply walked up behind him and without any pause she swung the big frozen leg of lamb high in the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his
