Macbeth is a courageous Scottish general. Macbeth received a prophecy from three witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. As he thinks of the prophecy more and more, he gets absorbed by ambition because he really wants to be king now. His wife tells him that he should murder King Duncan so that he can take the throne. Lady Macbeth forces her husband to murder Duncan. This reveals Lady Macbeth as a masculine character. Shakespeare introduces fantasy into the normal world through the characters of the witches. The witches are important figures as they look more into the darker parts of the play. Shakespeare creates Lady Macbeth as an confusing and strong character. Prophecies get the best of Macbeth’s ambition as his main aim is to become King. But after, his guilt kicks in and makes him weak.

The three odd witches are puzzling characters. Banquo says, "You should be women, And yet your beards forbid me to interpret that you are so". Their facial hair confuses the readers as they are unclear whether they are men or women. Beards are normally a masculine feature. …show more content…
