Act II brings much of the same ambiance. Lady Macbeth has drugged the guards so that Macbeth cannot get caught murdering Duncan and tried to convince Macbeth that all is fine. The Second Scene in this act also shows a speck of her humanity for she couldn’t kill the king, “if Duncan hadn’t reminded me of my father when I saw him sleeping, I would have killed him myself.” (Shakespeare 79). We are exposed to her affection in that moment. When Macbeth has explained his unsettling thoughts to Lady Macbeth, she calls him weak then marches into Duncan’s chamber to plant the daggers on the guards.     After being told that her husband could potentially be the next king, Lady Macbeth was quick to say that Macbeth should kill King Duncan. Lady Macbeth was the one that came up with the whole plan to kill Duncan and intoxicate the guards, that way it will look like they were the ones who did it. Macbeth killed Duncan, but after doing so he is extremely troubled and stressed out. He comes walking out from the room with the daggers in his hands.     After Lady Macbeth reads his letter and Macbeth arrives home, she is excited about becoming queen. She asks Macbeth when King Duncan is to be arriving and tells Macbeth to leave the plan up to her, his only job being that he has to look innocent and hide their true intentions. Shakespeare’s use of imagery, dramatic irony, rhetorical questions helped emphasise the guilt Macbeth felt after the murder.
