Rev. Jemison was the pastor of the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Staunton, Virginia before accepting the call to pastor at the Mount Zion First Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he served for 54 years before retiring in 2003. (Park and Church. 2013). Subsequently, he was elected President of the Louisiana Missionary Baptist State Convention, while also serving as President of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. from 1982-1994. Previously, he served as Secretary of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. for years, and Vice President of the Baptist World Alliance. (Park and Church. 2013). In addition, he was also a founding member of Southern Christian Leadership Conference together with Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Rev. Ralph Abernathy, and Rev. Fred.L. Shuttlesworth.
While comparing her time, theology and spiritual practice we realize she lived during the time of immense change, similarly we are living on the edge of a challenged modernity. Her spiritual direction allows us to recognize and develop further abilities in our pastoral ministries of caring for one another as participants within the corporate communities as well as within the mission fields.
In my book, A Chance To Die: The Life and Legacy of Amy Carmichael, Amy was a missionary to India. In this book by Elisabeth Elliot, the main focus is Amy Carmichael’s strong and unshakable faith. Amy Carmichael’s faith changed the lives of many children. The lesson I learned the most is the lesson of sacrifice. She forsook all to bring true joy to the nation of India. Here is her story.
In the early 1940’s Marie was born into a small tight knit family living in a small rural Kentucky town. Marie is now in her seventies and has led a very interesting life traveling the country, raising four children, and shaping her chosen profession. Our interview sessions were conducted over a period of time, as Marie is very active and has little “free time” to spare.

This same Christian family gave her the opportunity to meet her current husband and best friend. I am grateful for the opportunity to conduct two separate interviews with Maxine. Her story is interesting and encouraging. As I progress towards my "golden years," I hope that I will maintain a healthy body, mind and soul. This formula has obviously worked for Maxine.

However, the lessons that have resonated with me the most are not about dance; Audra has invested so much into my class and me and taught us many life lessons. Dorothy Herrmann's recent biography of Keller, Helen Keller: A Life (Herrmann, 1998) creates a much more complete picture of the costs of Keller's celebrity and iconic status, and of the tensions present in her life-long relationship with the woman whom she always referred to as Teacher.
