It is important for businesses and originations to evaluate their existing culture in comparison to the market in which they exists and make the necessary changes in order to stay relevant and current (Mind Tools, 2016). However this task may not be able to complete with ease therefor, change models are necessary to help companies evolve and avid becoming obsolete (Mind Tools, 2016).
In 1950 Kurt Lewin developed a model with tree stages know as Unfreeze, Change and Refreeze (Mind Tools, 2016). Lewis used the analogy of a block of ice to explain his Model for example if you have a round peace of ice and you rather have a square piece of ice you must follow these three steps (Mind Tools, 2016):
Unfreeze is the first step and it can also be the most difficult. Within this process management must address the changes needed to be made that would benefit the company’s future success (Mind Tools, 2016). In this stage the company has allowed time for the concept of change to take place and start teaching new policies and procedures (Mind Tools, 2016). It is important to be patient with employees during this process because some individuals may have a difficult time transitioning (Mind Tools, 2016).
Freeze is the final stage of Lewin’s Model and at this point individuals are getting settled into company’s new ways (Mind Tools, 2016). Management should encourage employees and make sure they are comfortably following the new procedures consistently (Mind Tools, 2016).
