Baseball: it can’t be perfected no matter how much money you have or how many superstars you have. It can only be played by pitching, hitting, and knowing the game. If you were to think of a word to try and sum up the game, I bet you wouldn’t come up with the word intangible, meaning unable to be touched or grasped. Baseball is one of the most spread out sports throughout the world, especially in Japan, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. Some sports like football try to be unique, but why would you want to be unique, when you can play the same way as hundreds of other countries and play against them like in the World Baseball Classic, which is an international series every four years against countries all over the world.

The knuckle ball is known as the dancing ball because when its coming in it looks like it dances in the air bouncing back and forth, Bob Uecker said “the way to catch a knuckleball is to wait until it stops rolling and then pick it up”. A knuckleballs speed varies from 55-70 but pitchers like R.A. Dickey throw the knuckleball faster than 70 and sometimes faster than 75. The knuckleball is known best for its erratic movement. The slider is like the curveball but instead of a 12-6 break the slider has a three to nine or a two to eight movement, with an average speed of 80-85 but measured as high as 90 sometimes. One of this year’s Hall of Fame inductees, Randy Johnson was said to have one of the best sliders to compliment his 103 mile per hour fastball. The circle change-up has about the same velocity as the change-up but instead of a 12-6 drop it has an 11-5 drop to it. The owner who is in charge of signing the general manager. Before he does this he has to set up the schedule for the 162 game season. When that is done he sets promotional days to gain more profit by getting as many people to come to the games as possible. The general manager’s job is to sign other staff such as head coach, hitting coach, pitching coach, and to sign, draft, and trade players. He makes the team as best as it can be by bringing in the best baseball players he can. The Boston Red Sox introduced Bill James to baseball after his book “The Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract”. The movie Moneyball was the story of Billy Beans 2002 season and how he put Bill James’s theory to use, by winning 102 games with just numbers. Bill James is now one of the few that break down teams before spring training via sabermetrics. Sabermetrics are all the numbers within the game that are percentages to tell what a certain chance a player has to get a hit in each at bat. It projects what they have done the last few years and determines what they should do that year and some of the Major League and Minor League managers are building their teams by using sabermetrics. The manager sets the team to be as good as possible and puts a method of how he wants the coach to run the team, such as where he wants certain
