Company History
Over one hundred years ago, an entrepreneur named Sebastian Spering Kresge opens his first retail store in 1899. The store was named Five-and-Dime and was located in downtown Detroit. The store was named Five-and-Dime because everything in the store was priced at either five cents or ten cents. This low price gained him a lot of customers and a lot of publicity. With this new found publicity, in 1912, he opened 85 more stores with annual sales of $10 million. As time went on, the prices have changed to $1 or less, but the business philosophy has remained the same. Around this time, the retail environment was getting very competitive, and the company needed to make some changes to keep up. In 1959, Kresge hired Harry B. Cunningham to become the president of the company. Under Cunningham leadership, the first Kmart store was opened in 1962 in Garden City, Michigan. In 1966, sales in 162 Kmart stores and Kresge stores topped the $1 billion mark and in 1968, the S. S. Kresge aired its first T.V. commercial. In 1976, Kresge made history by opening 271 Kmart stores in 1 year and becoming the first ever retailer to launch 17 million square feet of sales space in a single year. By 1977, nearly 95% of the S. S. Kresge sales were generated by Kmart so the company officially decided to change its name to Kmart Corporations. In 1991, Kmart opened the first supercenter in Medina, Ohio offering a full-service grocery area. In 1996, a complete redesign of Kmart was launched, changing its name to Big Kmart [or BigK] and in 1999, Kmart launch a new internet presence, named bluelight.com [now known as kmart.com]. Kool-aid was invented by a man named Edwin Perkins He was born in the state of Iowa but he eventually went to live in Nebraska. At about 1927 he invented Kool-aid He was inspired by the drink Fruit smack, but because he wanted to lower the cost of shipping he removed all fluids from the drink. This dry powder eventually became Kool-aid. However Kool-aid did not always go by the same name It was originally Kool-Ade but because Ade refers to juice he had to change it tho the name it has today. Eventually Kool-aid got their own mascot the cool-aid man (He often broke through walls), They also had a comic with 7 issues, along with the Atari 2600 came the “Adventures of Kool-aid Man”. Kmart needs to find a certain area that they are better at then Wal-Mart. They are not going to be able to beat their prices so they have to provide better customer service. They have select a specialized department that they can dominate and at least take away a little of the business from Wal-Mart. For example develop a top of the line auto care station for tune ups, inspections, oil changes etc.

When the company was increasing in size and work, Roebuck could not handle the work and quit the company. Sears bought Roebuck’s half and fully owned his company again. Until he met Julius Rosenwall, he bought a dozen factories to be able to get all the products made and shipped out on time. Storekeepers were not staying in business, they were basically fighting a losing battle. Further more, Sears allied with the federal mail and delivered the packages for free, this boosted his revenue. Although the Sears company is not what it used to be, Richard Sears was a genius in retail sales and made everyones life easier with his products and delivery. Consider how full of everyday garbage our land fields are. This is the reason that we recycle. Put your plastics in one bin, your burnable stuff in another, cans and metals in this stack, and other stuff goes into this trash can. Combine that with the theory of “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” and it should not surprise you that one way you can recycle is to shop at yard sales rather than visit your local department stores to find your treasures. You will save money and perhaps find a few treasures that you didn’t know you wanted if you join a community wide yard sale.
Macy’s is a brand that has built a name for itself. It offers a variety throughout its customers and company. It is a brand that I like because it is found throughout many states. Macy’s offers a variety of categories such as clothing, handbags, shoes, and jewelry. It is easy to find online and at local stores. It offers great promotions and sales throughout the year. Also, Macy’s guarantees great quality within its merchandise. It is a brand that reaches outs to its customers in several ways. Macy’s makes sure that the customers can shop online and pick up at a local store or shop at local stores. Macy’s is also a brand that offers discounts to its fellow customers and use this as an attraction to its clients.
Most of the time the reason people have yard sales is to either get rid of things, to clean up or organize, or to raise money. Knowing how to prepare a yard sale is very important because every once in a while, it’s good to get rid of some things. Maybe one’s storage space, or home is beginning to get cramped, and she is running out of space, so she needs to sale some of her belongings. One can set up their yard sale many ways. To set up a yard sale, she should clean out her belongings, price her items, and find a place to have a yard sale.

When getting a pet, there are a lot of supplies that the pet needs while it’s in a person’s care, for instance, the animal needs shelter, food and water, and entertainment. One of the best ways to make sure its needs are met is to visit a pet store where a person can adopt the pet and get the supplies the pet needs at the same time. PetSmart is a pet store that helps local shelters adopt out their pets and helps people get the supplies they need for the new pets. PetSmart tries to show the “adopt, don’t shop” mentality through the layout of the store.
