The third installment of The Hunger Games series is Mockingjay. It leaves off with Katniss Everdeen (the main protagonist) in a massive underground bunker known as District 13. She is sent there when her own homeland (district 12) is obliterated after she rebelled in the last Hunger Games she participated in (where two people from every district fight to the death, leaving a lone winner.) That particular event didn’t go as President Snow (the main antagonist) planned. At the end of the previous book there was a secret mission to rescue Katniss so she could be the Mockingjay—the leader of a nation-wide rebellion. She is a young woman with wisdom and insight beyond her years. Instead of following the crowd and automatically believing Katniss is a leader, she observes her with quiet caution. After joining her in intense combat within District 8, Paylor realizes that she is more than just televised hype and is worthy of being the Mockingjay. Her role in the book is minor, but she leaves an impression of great importance. She is one of the few leaders in the story that never let emotions roadblock sound judgment. She also exhibited a judicious side when she was elected president. When Katniss kills Coin, Paylor pardons her. She claims Katniss was unstable and therefore was not guilty by reason of insanity. The real reason for her pardon could be because Paylor suspected Coin’s true motives long before anyone else did. She knew deep down Katniss was in the right. Almost immediately after the election major changes took place—the Hunger Games were abolished and all the physical remnants of those dark days of President Snow’s rule, melted into a distant memory. No more would anyone suffer or starve again. The only hunger Katniss will experience in the future is for her love
