KEDGWICK – Maurice Wellington, 13, has been reported missing from his home in the town Kedgwick for the past 48 hours. There are four suspects in this investigation, all of which are residents of Kedgwick. Maurice was last seen with another boy at Highland Park, however both of their whereabouts are unknown. Maurice had not been home since 9AM on Tuesday when the police received a phone call from Maurice’s parents at 12AM, Wednesday morning. Maurice was last seen wearing a red hoodie and dark pants. When the townspeople were informed of the diagnosis, they reacted negatively and ostracized the family. There have been two other reports of crime against the Wellingtons recently. Roughly 3 months ago, their vehicle tires were mysteriously slashed, and on February 13th, their tool shed was burnt to the ground. The crimes of arson and destruction of personal property is still being investigated by authorities. John MacDonald, Charles Debussy, Henry Rideau and Mark Poisson are the four suspects in custody for abduction and first-degree murder of Maurice and the unknown little boy. “We have reason to suspect that these men are connected to the abduction of Maurice Wellington, and the hate crimes against the Wellingtons.” said Investigator Mark Saunders. The first suspect is Edward “Bennie” Bedwell. Bedwell was a local dishwasher who was questioned at a local motel for three days (Sigona). What supported Bedwell as a suspect is that he actually confessed to the murder (Sigona). There were multiple problems with Bedwell’s confession, however. The first problem with his confession is, “Bedwell couldn’t read or write, so it would be nearly impossible for him to understand what he was confessing to” (Sigona). The second problem with his confession is “After a time, everyone realized Bedwell’s story didn’t add up. There were inconsistencies, including the fact that Bedwell said he was with the girls for a month before they died” (Sigona). Finally, the main problem with his confession is that the girls were dead within four hours of leaving home (Sigona). The other suspect in the case of the murder of Barbara and Patricia Grimes is Max Fleig. Max Fleig was a young man in his teens when the Grimes sisters were murdered (MacGowan). Max offered to take a lie detector test, which he failed (MacGowan). The reason Fleig was released even after failing the test is “The police began to focus on him as a prime suspect until they were told that it was illegal to polygraph someone underage. The police released him, many of the authorities thinking he was their man” (MacGowan). Another example that supports Fleig as a suspect is that he was imprisoned later in his life

Law enforcement gathered information from locals in hopes of receiving something that could help lead to the gunman’s identity. Three days following the abduction, locals report of seeing an unsual red vehicle driving around town six weeks, two weeks and then a day prior to Jacob Wetterling’s abduction; therefore, every red vehicle in the area was searched (St. Cloud Times Staff). Locals also reported sightings of three men: one known to creepily leer at visiting customers and the other two to be owners of the reported vehicles. Authorities combined the police sketches of these men due to belief the three sightings could be the same man and released the sketch to the public on November 23 (St. Cloud Times Staff). Before the boys knew it shots had been fired and Kristopher was dead. About an hour after the fatal shooting of Kristopher Lohrmeyer, all three men were in custody and telling their version of the night’s events. Michael and Derrick who had run away after the shooting confessed to police and named Andy as the shooter. According to the three boy’s testimony, they had only recently met and needed away to get some quick cash, so they developed a carjacking scheme and headed to Andy’s house to pick up 2 stolen handguns. The three boys were uneducated and had spent most of their time on the streets in search of drugs. The judge ruled that they would be held without bail and there was probable cause to charge them all with first-degree murder (Thrown Away, 2005).

Horace lay there on my floor; his body stretched out twenty-four inches across my floor. He is wearing my old blue denim Oshkosh overalls. The overalls’ appearance reminds me of pants that had been run through the washer several hundred times. Atop Horace’s head are two half brown, half mocha, orange slice shaped ears. The right ear has an inch slit where a sliver of white thread hangs out. He has a large orange-peach head like a scrap of metal going through the first stages of oxidation. The soft fur on his head is hard and matted on the end where sticky candy used to lie. He has one small half marble, black eye on the right side. On the left side he has a hole where fluffy dirt colored cotton hangs out. The left side also has a dark brown spot; the spot reminds me of a cartoon character with a black eye. Just under the left eye on his puffy, beige-colored cheek he has two dark brown freckles. In between his right eye, and left hole, he has a patch of hair missing, which reveals tightly threaded fish netting holding the stuffing inside. An inch below that is his flat, oval shaped nose. I can see teeth marks made by a teething Child.
