Mr. Consul, Mr. Magistrate, Members of Senate, my fellow Romans: These recent years have been a breakthrough for Rome. We lost our beloved leader, my great-uncle, Julius Caesar, and witnessed the widening of the partisan gap that occurred it the aftermath. We have persisted through the civil war which nearly destroyed us. But tonight, we turn the page. Marcus Antonius and Cleopatra have fled to Egypt and the civil war is over. Our freedom is protected once more. We can return to our lives. We can rebuild Rome from its war-torn remains. Finally, for the first time in many years, we are no longer fighting our fellow Romans. We must extend the hand of amicability to those we have combated for the past decade, for the only way that we can move forward from this tragic era is together, as one people. We can rebuild Rome better than she ever was before. I will take this federation of crumbled brick and renew to an empire of gleaming marble, but I desperately need your support and effort. I need every Roman man, woman, and child to help mend the broken bonds between our two parties. Without your cooperation, Rome will remain broken and impoverished. Your role in this community is integral to its progression. I will do all I can to prevent the fall of Rome, but how could I save a country already dead? How could I undo the suicide of an entire society? The answer, my fellow Romans, is simply that I cannot. Alone, the tasks I am faced with are impossible.
