Josef Mengele was a medical expert at the concentration camp Aus,chwitz during WW2. During his time at Auschwitz Mengele racked up quite the reputation. He performed many experiments a lot including twins and what they knew. 1943 was when he got to Auschwitz, during that time he had a full two years before he had to leave. Josef Mengele began at Auschwitz in 1943 after being injured in the war. Being the first medical expert in the SS he had the ruthless background with the medical knowledge. All medical matters in camp he was responsible for from sickness to experiments. His obsession with the study started even before Auschwitz with his mentor getting him hooked on the matter, leading to tests. Mengele’s mentor Otmar Freiherr von Verschuer was the one who got the twins into his brain. His experiments involving twins were gruesome, they went all the way from chemical injections to full on surgery. Mengele was brought roughly 1,500 twins to use for whatever. One of his experiments he sewed two twins together trying to create conjoined twins, they later died if internal infection. After Auschwitz got taken down Mengele fled to Gross Rosen concentration camp until that later got evacuated. He then fled to the U.S. under fake papers from 1945 until 1949 under fake papers. Born on December 31, 1908, Simon Wiesenthal lived in Buczacz, Germany which is now known as the Lvov Oblast section of the Ukraine. The Nazi Hunter came from a small Jewish family who suffered horrifically during the Holocaust (The Simon Wiesenthal Center). Wiesenthal spent a great amount of time trying to survive in the harsh conditions while in internment camps and after escaping the last camp he attended. Wiesenthal spent weeks traveling through the wilderness until he was eventually captured by the Allies, still wondering the entire time if his wife was even alive (The Simon Wiesenthal Center). Of the 3000 prisoners in the camp Wiesenthal escaped from, only 1200 survived and Wiesenthal was one of them (Holocaust Research Project).

When Hitler and the Nazi Party first entered power, they proposed strict and unimaginably radical policies. Their goal as the dominant political power was to create a “pure” German society. The idea of a “pure” German society stemmed from the idea that certain racial groups and ethnicities were undesirable and inferior. With that in mind, they sought to completely eliminate, through annihilation tactics, Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, biracial children, handicapped citizens, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and any other individual(s) who opposed their radical ideologies. However, the most questionable part of these tactics was how and why the Nazis chose them. Of the many ways dictators and corrupt governments had tortured their citizens in the past, why was Hitler determined that the Einsatzgruppen, ghettos, and concentration camps were going to be the methods of choice to mass murder the Jewish people. Robert Payne notes in his book The Life and Death of Adolf Hitler that Hitler was not satisfied with a gruesome murder of the Jewish race. He preferred them to die in agony and complete humiliation. Methods of mass murder such as killing squads (the Einsatzgruppen), ghettos, and concentration camps proved themselves as the perfect final solution. These tactics would exterminate Jews at an increasing rate while removing them of their respectable status.
While researching things about Josef Kramer I found out things that I didn't know before. Such as concentration camps and what it was like to live back then. Josef Kramer was the commandant of the Bergen Belsen concentration camp he was nicknamed The Beast of Belsen. Kramer was born on November 10th, 1906 and died on December 13th, 1945 by being hanged. He was responsible for the deaths of thousands of people.
Why did Dr. Josef Mengele experiment on twin children prisoners in Auschwitz? Dr. Josef Mengele, or "The Angel of Death" he was so often called, was a physician in Germany who worked alongside top medical researchers. He was often called a handsome man with a calm appearance, an appearance that hid the person he really was. During World War II, Dr. Josef Mengele conducted horrifying experiments on humans, especially on twin children who he seemed to have a fascination with, to be able to learn about environmental and genetic traits and to experiment on how he could be able to multiply on the German Aryan/Nordic race which Hitler appointed as being a race above all other races by having German Aryan/Nordic women give birth to twins. Mengele also decided who lived and who died in the concentration camp in Auschwitz by just pointing out with his finger, right or left.
Many of the alleged Nazi war criminals that were captured had attempted to evade prosecution shortly before the end of the war. Some opted for suicide, rather than risk capture while others used the Austrian and German Underground offers of fake passports and other means of forged identification to assume a new identity . A choice opted for by many, that virtually guaranteed them a new life with remote chance of detection was to travel to the Anglo-American countries after immigration quotas were raised. Over 4000 Nazi criminals sought refuge in Australia . Many lied about their history to gain entry into their new home and proceeded to blend in, unnoticed by our government. They were no longer Nazi criminals but new citizens with a hidden past. Lists of suspected criminals were compiled and alleged perpetrators systematically captured and put to trial.
Dr. Mengele was truly a smart man. He studied medicine and psychology throughout his lifetime, most of these experiences were at the Frankfurt University (9). Little did people known that Josef Mengele was actually hired simply to study heredity in twins. The Nazi army enlisted Mengele during his last years studying at the Frankfurt University.(5)With his expertise in the medical field the SS really believed he could find the key to heredity, which they believed would win them the war. With the extensive capabilities Mengele had, he was able to extensively research throughout hundreds of experiments. Mengele experimented and tested ideas to his hearts content, on the countless amounts of Jewish prisoners.
In the New York Post, it is stated that evil Dr. Josef Mengele was known as the Angel of death. He was intrigued by the idea of identical twins and around 3,000 twin pairs were exposed to his cruel experimentation. He would like to be called "Uncle Mengele", while he traveled around the camp offering innocent children who were starving for food and candy. His experiments included sex-change operations and infecting inmates with lethal germs (Buiso). Josef Mengele was a lunatic, mad with the idea of learning about the human body through experimentation on dead or mostly live human beings. The man was known for having scary eyes and for being very dangerous to be next to if you weren’t on his side. There have been stories of him killing 750 women just because there was a rumor of lice to have broken out into the prisoners in a certain prisoner holding shelter. Josef Mengele was known by thousands of people to be the most eerie individual.
One of the most demented doctors of the Nazi era went by the name of Josef Mengele. This was because of the gruesome experiments he conducted on woman, men, and children. Mengele wasn't always part of the Nazi culture. In fact, a lot of people don't seem to know how he ended up living the life that he did. Mengele started his career saving lives and helping people, not destroying them. So what caused him to change his ways so drastically? How could someone find it so easy to cause somebody else so much pain and agony?
The holocaust was a horrific period of time where unbelievable criminal acts were carried out against the Jews, Gypsies, and other racial gatherings. These defenseless individuals were sent from unsanitary ghettos to death camps, one being Auschwitz. The Auschwitz death camp comprised of three camps, all in which are placed in Poland. Numerous forms of extermination came about overtime to speed up the killing process. Life at the death camps was cut short for those who weren’t fit to work; such as the elderly, women, the mentally disabled, and young children. The others were put work while being starved to death. Experiments were held on dwarfs, twins, and other misfits were carried out by Josef Mengele. These inhuman acts against the Jews were all held in secret from society by the Nazis until liberation day.
It is evident from Elie’s story that he put all his trust in his doctor and had no fear. There were many doctors in the concentration camps that had no idea their fellow workers were actually intentionally harming the Jews. Hans Munch has been hailed as a “mini-Schindler” at Auschwitz for helping to save Jewish lives (Winik 1). Munch grew up near the French border. As a young medical student, he joined the Nazi party only because it was needed to succeed. He found a way around the system and was able to help many Jews. Instead of injecting toxic serum, Munch and his nurses inject a benign substance that cause a rash, but that did not cause any harm (Winik 9). The nurses then made fake reports. Munch says that if the original serum was injected it would have caused serious harm (Winik 9). At the 50th anniversary celebration of the Auschwitz Liberation, Munch was acquitted of accused war crimes to the Jewish people.
