The visual qualities can be immediately perceived by all its forms. My eyes are first naturally drawn to the right which is the major mass part of the sculpture. It appears to be a log with a branch flowing out of it. The lines of the sculpture develop a shape that resembles a pipe. The texture feels hard yet smooth like grasping any branch, tree, ect… The forms of the pip tells several different contents of the art work. This work of art is defined by all its forms. The work of art has a natural color with no oil or paint media added to it. Also, to left of the pipe is a boy whose forms are much smaller than the log. The lines all develop the shape of a childlike boy with one arm reaching up. The color is a natural substance of stone with value with a shade of grey. It also has a smooth but a hard texture.
What can be seen in The Forbidden Pipe. It is a natural log that resembles a pipe with a sculpture of a child in front of it reaching up to grasp the stem of the pipe but is too small to reach it. There are multiple ways to view this work of

The boy is reaching for his love but cannot obtain her yet. With the boy’s arm, fully extended, he is giving every inch he can to gasp his love but is too small. He needs to grow and mature in ways that will aid him to achieves his love. Even though he wants his love right now and will try to do anything to grasp her, it is not his time yet. However, this gives the boy hope that as he grows to be a man, he will have the qualities to hold the weight of his love. The Forbidden Pipe tells a hopeful story through materials found in one’s home. It values the relationship of self-maturity to achieve his or her love in a relationship. The art work achieves by using a pipe and natural substance to relate with hope and romance. So, this work shows not to just give up on something but instead to start now and because if you can dream your goals you can
As people age, maturity and wisdom is gained through every experiences. From the time a child turns eighteen and becomes an adult, they are required to deal with the realities of the real world and learn how to handle its responsibilities. In John Updike's short story, "A&P", the protagonist Sammy, a young boy of nineteen, makes a drastic change to his life fueled by nothing more than his immaturity and desire to do what he wants and because of that, he has do deal with the consequences.
The tree like sculptures are spread throughout the room similarly to a small patch of trees in the country side. There are three tall sculptures, one laying on its side, and one that resembles a tree stump. Two of the tall standing structures wrap around each other and stretch nearly to the ceiling. There isn’t more than a foot of space between them. Scraps of veneer have been fastened to their outer shell in a way that resembles the bark of a tree. The next piece is wider and stands on its own. Its tan color draws you in and holds your gaze. Another piece lays on its side. Its shape differs from the others and appears to be more abstract. From the side
The short story “A & P” by John Updike is about a young man’s decision to stand up for others or, in the other characters’ opinions, make a foolish decision by abandoning his responsibility. At first he believes his decision is the right thing, quitting his job for how the girls were being treated. Then when he gets outside of the store, he realizes the world he just left behind, regrets his decision, and begins to question his actions. He starts to overthink what the world has to offer him, making his worldview change from underrating to overrating. His “unsure of the world’s dangers” worldview in the beginning changes to overrating the dangers of the future ahead at the end of the story causing Sammy to change throughout “A & P”.
The lines in this sculpture are very crisp and sharp. Beginning from the left we begin to see an ideal flow of nature. A small column is on the top left corner and we see a vine beginning to spiral towards the bottom left corner. Other vines flow from the bottom left corner and they surround a horse. The horse also appears to be three dimensional. Around the horse’s torso, there are petal like structures as if the horse is leaping out of a flower or portal. More vines around the horse and a flower is attached to the bottom left vine. Attached the bottom left vine as well, appears to be an angel with a distressed expression on his face. A snake is wrapped around his left arm and he is holding the head
The chapter presents the idea of a symbol being open to a diverse range of meanings and interpretations. In the novel, a 133-carat diamond the size of a pigeon’s egg known as the “Sea of Flames” provides a flow to the story by carrying a multitude of meanings.
Although both sculptures, LOVE and The Kiss, are about love, they touch upon different aspects of love. The LOVE structure illustrates love in general, as a whole. The word love can be interpreted into the love a parent has for their child or even the love of an object. On the other hand, The Kiss can be interpreted as ecstasy or even lust. Although The Kiss seems to be viewed as the more romantic of the two, LOVE demonstrates love better because the...
There is no greater bond then a boy and his father, the significant importance of having a father through your young life can help mold you to who you want to become without having emotional distraught or the fear of being neglected. This poem shows the importance in between the lines of how much love is deeply rooted between these two. In a boys life he must look up to his father as a mentor and his best friend, the father teaches the son as much as he can throughout his experience in life and build a strong relationship along the way. As the boy grows up after learning everything his father has taught him, he can provide help for his father at his old-age if problems were to come up in each others
Since its emergence over 30,000 years ago, one of visual art’s main purposes has been to act as an instrument of personal expression and catharsis. Through the mastery of paint, pencil, clay, and other mediums, artists can articulate and make sense of their current situation or past experiences, by portraying their complex, abstract emotions in a concrete form. The act of creation gives the artist a feeling of authority or control over these situations and emotions. Seen in the work of Michelangelo, Frida Kahlo, Jean Michel-Basquiat, and others, artists’ cathartic use of visual art is universal, giving it symbolic value in literature. In Natasha Trethewey's Native Guard, Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go, and Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness,
The author uses imagery, contrasting diction, tones, and symbols in the poem to show two very different sides of the parent-child relationship. The poem’s theme is that even though parents and teenagers may have their disagreements, there is still an underlying love that binds the family together and helps them bridge their gap that is between them.
One of the shape that sticks out to me is Saint George head it is very circular in how it was created and so the shape you see is a circle. Another obvious thing that can be founded on the castle mostly you can see the rectangles on the building when you look at the windows and if you look closely at the horse you can see diamonds on the horse’s mantle. I would say that the sculpture is very light and that the sculpture is a source since it tell of a story through its actions. There is little color but most is dark color and there are the primary colors of red, orange and blue. Looking at the sculpture I can you tell you that the artist who made this was going for real texture when he created his piece. The sculpture space is of depth and perspective when you look at the sculpture the castle looks far away from where Saint George due to the fact that they placed the castle behind the horses tail which then they used the rocks to create the effect that the Saint George is further from the castle and is doing battle with the dragon. The sculpture has the effect of implied movement which means that from what I can see I can only assuming that in the sculpture I know he moving due to the fact that the artist put it clear when he made the sculpture in a moving way by having Saint George hold his lance sort of going down and the horse stepping on the rock as if he is moving to charge the dragon. From what I can tell the artist implied both unity and variety he uses unity through the rocks since they are very similar to each other to create the effect of unity and he uses variety with the horse and the castle and people they are all different but they bring the sculpture together. The
Soon, he caught the attention of a young pregnant woman who was standing in-front of the bookshelf and checking out the book of “New Parents Advice” with his husband. The women is around 30-35 years old, wore a low-heeled shoes with a big belly; while her husband showed people a mature feeling with his beard. And it is hard to tell how old is he. I can hear their conservation clearly since they were standing behind the bookshelf next to me. The couple was having a conservation about how to divide the work on taking care the upcoming baby in the future. Their conservation is full of love and with an air of expectancy. She always touched her belly gentlely and stretched the top of her head toward the ceiling while she was reading the book of with his husband. Their simile told me that she is so excited to meet their new born baby. However, her sentiment and emotion immediately affected by the disturbing atmosphere. The boy
Nonetheless, this really is a tale of compelling love between the boy and his father. The actions of the boy throughout the story indicate that he really does love his father and seems very torn between his mother expectations and his father’s light heartedness. Many adults and children know this family circumstance so well that one can easily see the characters’ identities without the author even giving the boy and his father a name. Even without other surrounding verification of their lives, the plot, characters, and narrative have meshed together quite well.
Having realized art as a structured cultural phenomenon, and having emptied its direct and apparent meaning, it is possible to identify all its possible significations. Interestingly enough, I find that art reveals many diametrically opposed significations: expression and oppression, bias and acceptance, individual and society, creativity and confinement, and freedom and convention, among others. Art signifies the de-politicization of our culture, for even the most political of pieces cease to cause a stir among the masses.
John Updike's novel, Rabbit, Run, is about a man named Harry “Rabbit” Angstrom. Rabbit is a brainless guy whose career as a high school basketball star peaked at age 18. In his wife's view, he was, before their early, hasty marriage, already drifting downhill.
Thus, it seems, the processes of appreciation and evaluation which lead to the conclusion that an object, whether a work of art or otherwise, is beautiful, are the same in all cases, and the paradigm for those processes must be that which is furnished by the appreciation and estimation of a natural beauty free of all intervention by concepts, whether the concept of art or any more specific concept.
