John Thompson: Summary And Analysis

John Thompson works at one of the biggest lawyer companies in New York City. John is married to a woman named Alice. Alice is a very “stay to herself” woman. She feels as if she has to hide things from John. Alice and John both cheat each other out of everything and they don't feel like they have a very good relationship. Alice thinks John doesn’t “understand” her and her needs. On January 21, 2015 John was at the office very late one night. New Yorkers do not usually drive because they have taxi cabs. John finally gets off and he realizes that Alice has tried to call him a million times already. John walks out of the company building while he calls for a taxi. When he gets in the cab, the driver, a man, asks “Where to sir?” Without looking up from his phone he says “228 Park Ave S.” As he is checking his voicemails from Alice he feels the car stop just a little too early. John Thompson looks up, with concern, to see a black shadow turned around looking at him. The shadow then says “Hello John, would you like to make a deal or die?”

The shadow told John that if he does exactly what he is asked on his terms, he will receive money in return. John Thompson did not fear this man but also was not sure if the mysterious man was telling the truth. John asks “How will I know that I will get the money?” The shadow places his hand on John’s shoulder and says “Look when you get home, you will believe.” While they are riding the shadow starts pointing at buildings and John realizes the buildings have names and these names are of people very high up in his company. The car stops at one building, John looks to see “Abraham Crownfield” written across a sign on the sidewalk. John then realizes the shadow is something way bigger than he
