John List murdered his entire family, using two guns to carry out the crime. While his children were at school he shot his wife Helen in the back of the head, and then his mother Alma above the left eye. As his daughter Patricia and younger son Frederick arrived home from school, he shot each of them in the back of the head. After making himself lunch, List drove to his bank to close his own and his mother's bank accounts, and then to Westfield High School to watch his older son John Jr. play in a soccer game. Well I’m sure that’s what Herbert and Bonnie Clutter thought to until the night of their death. Herbert and Bonnie Clutter lived in Holcomb, Kansas with their two kids Nancy and Kenyon on their family farm. The Clutter family was very respected within the community and in Garden City. Herbert was also a very respected employer. The Clutter family lived a very disciplined but still enjoyable and well provided for.

John Wayne Gacy was a U.S. serial killer who was found guilty of killing 33 boys and young men (McCormick, 1998). Gacy was born on March 17, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois (Sullivan, 2013). John Wayne Gacy had two sisters, Joanne and Karen and had a difficult relationship with his father. His father was an auto repair machanic and World War I veteran (Jones, 2012). Whenever his father came home from work, he would go to the basement and drink. His father was an alcoholic and used physical punishment on all of his children (Jones, 2012). He would even beat the children with a razor strap if they misbehaved (Sullivan, 2013). Serial murder is defined by the National Institute of Justice as a "series of two or more murders, committed as separate events, usually but not always, by one offender acting alone. The crimes may occur over a period of time ranging from hours to years. Quite often the motive is psychological, and the offender's behavior and the physical evidence observed at the crime scenes will reflect sadistic, sexual overtones." This definition perfectly describes serial killer Albert Fish.
Jacob Barber, a fourteen year old boy, was accused of murdering his classmate Ben Rifkin and was put on trial. Fortunately, Leonard Patz—a child molester and once a suspect in Ben’s case—suddenly confessed of killing Ben and committed suicide. As a result, innocent Jacob was freed from his accusation. However, the sudden death of Patz and another girl Hope Conner, who was seen with Jacob shortly before her death, raised renewed suspicion about Jacob’s potential involvement in not only Ben’s case but also the murder of Hope. While the coincidences of Patz’s suicide and Hope’s death are seemingly convincing evidence of Jacob’s guilt, there is a lack of direct evidence to convict Jacob for the murders of Ben and Hope.
This event was an interview of Anthony Ray Hinton, a man who was on death row for 30 years for a crime he didn’t commit. The interview lasted 90 minutes where he was asked questions and in turn told his story. He first began by talking about life as a kid in Alabama during segregation. He described the separate schools, the drinking fountain policy, and overall how black weren’t a loud to do anything the white people did. However, he said segregation never bothered him as a child and that it was something one just got used to. He furthered the discussion and talked about the day he got arrested and how he was just mowing the grass when the cops showed up on his lawn and took him to jail. Both boys involved in the murder of James Bulger came from rough backgrounds. The city of Liverpool is known for its poverty. Robert Thompson lived with his single mother and six siblings. Thompson’s aggressive nature concerned teachers and other parents. Jon Venables was the youngest of three. He also disturbed community members. A teacher of his stated, “He would literally throw himself around the room, banging off the walls and furniture” (1). Both boys had a history of violence. Venables once attempted to choke another student with a ruler. Social alienation and financial stress from home may have led them to attack. When questioned by investigators, neither boy revealed a motive; however, Venables said to investigators, "No, I didn't really want to hurt him, I didn't want to hurt him or nothing cause I didn’t was to hurt him with strong things, only like light things... I deliberately missed..." (11, p.11). The boys may have been looking for an outlet for their feelings that led to such acts of violence. Thompson, throughout his interview with investigators and trial kept unusually calm. He seemed almost bored. Venables on the other hand, broke into tears frequently throughout the interview and even asked
Richard Strout was married to Mary Ann, who was most likely fed up with his hot temperedness that always seemed to get him into fist fights. She separated from her husband and while they were going through the process of divorce, she began a new relationship with Frank Fowler, killing all hope of reconciling her marriage with Strout. In return Strout became enraged not only in losing his wife, but their sons, who now spent their days with this new man who was taking on the father role in their life. Whether it was his love for his wife and children or pride, it drove him to the only solution he could find, and that was to kill Frank. “Richard Strout shot Frank in front of the boys…Strout came in the front door and shot Frank twice in the chest and once in the face with a 9mm automatic(100).”

In the end we find out that John had not raped and killed the two little girls he was found with, but instead he had happened upon them and tried to bring them back to life; only it was too late. Seeing the fantastical nature of the situation the guards who knew the truth were unable to free John of the charges he was facing and they had to kill him anyways.
