John Cabot's Second Voyage Of Discovery

231 Words1 Page

John Cabot was the man who, in 1497, discovered the coast of North America. He was inspired by the discoveries of Bartolomeu Dias and Christopher Columbus. Cabot was sailing Bristol, and he thought he had sailed into Asia. It was actually Canada. Originally, King Henry VII gave letters to Cabot and his son. These letters gave them permission to go on a “voyage of discovery” and bring back goods. He made it to the coast of North America about two months after he left Bristol. Once he got there, he saw no people, but he did see signs of habilitation. So, he claimed the land for the king. Cabot also took a second voyage. In 1497, Cabot thought it was a good idea to set out across the north Atlantic. Only this time, he would stay westward.
