In Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany on March 31, 1685, Johann Sebastian Bach was the eighth child born to Johann Ambrosius Bach and Maria Elisabeth Lammerhirt. The Bach family was comprised of seven generations of musicians along with a strong musical history on his mother's side. Moreover, Bach's father was not only a string player and the town piper but also a court trumpeter, which was a city musician of higher rank, and his uncle Johann Cristoph Bach held the position of a successful and talented organist. Thus, Bach's musical talent was quite evident from an early age; so, it was no surprise that Johann Sebastian Bach became a great composer. Trained from an early age, the violin lessons from his father combined with his truly amazing voice would first earn him a place in his Lutheran church choir. Because of the shift to an interest in vocal music, Johann Sebastian Bach began to write cantatas and what he called "well-ordered church music;" one of his first was God is My King. This piece impressed the members of the council present in the audience so much that it was the only one to be printed in his lifetime, and it would be this success that allowed him to be able to reconstruct the facilities, including the organ, that were in disrepair. Some of his most famous pieces from this time are Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, BWV 565 and the Prelude and Fugue in D Major, BWV 532 along with Passacaglia in C Minor, BWV 582; Aus der Tiefen, BWV 131, which was Bach's first cantata; and the Actus Tragicus, BWV 106. Nonetheless, the rising tension between the orthodox Lutherans that embraced music, which were led by Pastor Eilmar, and the Piests that had a genuine distrust of music and the arts, such as Bach's superior and pastor J.
