Jaromir Jagr Hockey is a gruesome and tiring game. Could somebody play in the rapid paced NHL at the age of forty-five? When you hear that question one name should come to mind, that name is Jaromir Jagr. Jaromir Jagr’s childhood was difficult and his family was struggling at that time. He was born in Kladno, Czechoslovakia. That was an ancient city of 80,000 people. Czechoslovakia, at the time had a communist government. Since he lived in a communist government he and his family couldn't afford luxuries but he insisted on playing hockey. As a child however he was an excellent shooter and had great hands. Still a youngster he wasn't the best skater but Jaromir Jagr was determined. To skate better he did one-thousands squats each day. He …show more content…
He never takes a day off and is working out every day along with skating on the ice. Jaromir Jagr doesn't want to leave his passion, hockey. He sadly has no life besides hockey. No wife. No children. Just hockey. There is nothing that can stop Jaromir Jagr from doing what he loves, even old age. That is what keeps his legs going, keeps the old machine running. He has had pressure to retire for the last ten years. He could get hurt but all the old man says is, people expect me to retire but I have no limits. I don't want to do what people expect me to do. Jaromir Jagr is at a great age, but what are his plans for the future? Of course as you would guess he wants to keep playing for years to come. He’ll keep playing until he's fifty if he can. Even at his age he's not slowing down and who knows if he ever will. His coach even tells him he can take games, days, workouts, and practices off but Jaromir Jagr never agrees. He will never stop. Jaromir Jagr has had a wonderful career and life. Nothing can compare to his extraordinary NHL career. He has had many goals and many points and at the age of forty-five, he isn't stopping. He is second in all time points for an NHL career. Wayne Gretzky is first. Jaromir Jagr was and still is a fascinating hockey player. He is a hockey legend that will never be

As stated in my thesis statement, the sport of hockey has been forced to compete with the growing mass popularity with other sports such as basketball and football. There once was a point in time where hockey had just as much popularity as those sports but because people are finding more interest in those sports, the National Hockey League found itself in a “drought” of unimportance with other sports. With not televising the sport as “commonly” as other sports.
Even when he was a tyke, Wayne was playing in leagues several years older then him and he was still racking in the points. When he was only 10, he played in his hometown hockey league in Brantford and parents could see this little boy had a talent. Scoring over 350 goals and over 100 assists (www.upperde ck.com/athletes/waynegretzky/profile) in that single season, it seemed he would be setting records for the rest of his life. Gretzky played a very short year of junior hockey, before being drafted into the NHL where he started his astonishing career and began collecting goals, assists, and his many unbeatable records.
Lemieux was six feet four inches and 235 lbs. Gretzky was six foot even and 185 lbs. Hockey is a contact sport more physical size can be an advantage for out muscling an opponent for position or even intimidation of smaller players. Bigger forwards are usually called power forwards in hockey and are expected to be stronger and use their size to their advantage and be in close proximity to the net which gives them better chances at scoring points. The power forward position was the style Mario Lemieux played. The sport also requires a fair amount of speed so being smaller can be an advantage as far as being quicker than a bigger opponent. These players are usually labeled as finesse players and are found further away from the net and are able to shoot better so they can make up for the lack of proximity to the net. These players usually have more skill as far as shooting and passing ability. Wayne Gretzky falls into the finesse style and was an excellent passer. Even with their different play styles and physical attributes some of the statistics they managed to put up are nothing short of

Saul Indian Horse is an Ojibway child who grew up in a land which offered little contact with anyone belonging to a different kind of society until he was forced to attend a residential school in which children were being stripped away of their culture with the scope of assimilating them into a more “civilized” community. Saul’s childhood in the school, greatly pervaded by psychological abuse and emotional oppression, was positively upset once one of the priests, Father Leboutillier, introduced him to the world of hockey, which soon become his sole means of inclusion and identification, mental well-being and acknowledged self-worth in his life. It is though universally acknowledged how, for every medal, there are always two inevitably opposite
I then asked him what his motivation to succeed is and he had one quick answer, his family. His father and mother got divorced a couple of years back, but neither one has stopped supporting him in all his endeavors. He said that both are always there for all his games and that every time he is at home plate getting ready to hit his homeruns he hears his mom scream his name and cheer him on. When it comes to preparation, Villar takes it extremely seriously. “I haven’t had any serious injuries to be honest, the most time I was out was 2 games for a sprained ankle and then I was good to go. Preparation is probably the most important thing, I can’t imagine what missing a season must be like.” When he said this his tone turned very serious and it was easy to tell that it is something he just does not play around with after seeing multiple teammates go down because of bad preparation and careless behavior. He told me he warms up for every game the same way and keeps a routine that works for him. He arrives to games an hour in advanced to run, throw, and hit in order to get a sweat going and be ready once the first pitch
In conclusion, Lou Gehrig was and will always be an American hero to many people. His ability to play 2,130 consecutive games (“Great Athletes” 11) with many broken bones and other injuries is a feat that only a few will be able to accomplish. Not to mention the many awards and records the Iron horse has set and achieved. The people that had the opportunity to watch him play are very lucky. Not many players like Lou Heinrich Gehrig AKA the Iron Horse come along often.
Born in August 4, 1921, Maurice Richard was the eldest of eight children of Onesime and Alice Richard. He started playing hockey when he was a young kid and he was good in boxing as well. In 1937, a young Maurice Richard at age16, was dropped out of school and worked with his father as a machinist and that was his only income other than some income in the winter with the senior Canadiens.
Hockey would not be hockey without the players. The NHL is famous for its five on five play. Roller hockey, on the other hand, is four on four. Strategically in ice hockey two players stay primarily on defense while the other three are sent forward for offense. Roller hockey, however, with only two forwards for offense, one of the two defense-men must move up to join the attack in order for teams to have an effective attack. While causing a minor headache to defensive players, having four players on the floor allows more open ice to skate and make plays in. This too has a downfall though, four players doing the work of five can be tiresome to players leading to the need for shorter periods.

“‘They score! Henderson has scored for Canada!’” Foster Hewitt wordlessly described” (Pelletier) when Paul Henderson scored the series-winning goal. This allowed Canada to win the 1972 Summit Series, a moment that no one would ever forget since it all happened during the climax of the Cold War. Prior to this, the Soviets had won the previous three Olympic gold metals since Canada could not use its NHL players. Thus, this provided Canada with the chance to play hockey against the USSR using its best players. This raised the question: if Canada were able to send its best players, would it still be enough to beat the Soviets? Everyone in Canada was certain that the Soviets would not win a single game, but little did they know they underestimated the extent of the Soviets abilities. Tied in the last few minutes of game eight, Canada had to score or they would lose the series. However, when Paul Henderson scored the game-winning goal, never before had a single sporting event meant so much to Canadians. Therefore, Paul Henderson’s goal is a defining moment for Canada in the twentieth century becauseit provided Canada with the opportunity to evolve hockey, proved that Canada and our democratic society were superior to the USSR and their communist society, and brought citizens together to unify Canada as a nation.
To become successful you need to earn and work for it. According to Malcolm Gladwell the book outliers “Canadian hockey is a meritocracy… You can’t buy your way into Major Junior A hockey. It doesn’t matter who your father or mother is, or who your grandfather was, or what business your family is in. Nor does it matter if your live in the most remote corner in Canada. If you have ability, the vast network of hockey scouts and talent spotters will find you, and if you are willing to work to develop that ability, the system will reward you. Success in hockey is based on individual merit—and both of those words are important. Players are judged on their own performance… and on the basis of their ability…” He emphasizes that to get to success you need to work for things. If amateurs accumulate to not work for things then they will never be successful
By age seven he was already known to local sports press for his hockey talent. At age ten he scored an incredible 159 goals in 55 games playing hockey in his hometown of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. He had a season point total of 280 points (Sidney-Crosby.info).
...ome the “G.O.A.T”. Former teammate of James had this to say about him in an interview, “The way I've seen him improve in just the two years I've been around him, I've seen the maturation the whole time, and it's a scary thought because it's not going to stop. It's a freight train right now”.
