Jake Sully formally known as, Jacob is considered the protagonist in the movie. Jake is a Marine veteran who has paraplegic renegade meaning he is paralyzed from the waste down.
Jake had a twin brother, Tom that was killed on Earth. Soon after, Jake agreed to take his place in the Avatar Program on Pandora, in which humans somewhat control human and Na'vi hybrids to safely pilot the planet. Jakes original mission was to gather intel that would assist Colonel Quaritch in finding a way to force the Na'vi to leave their land, or even destroy it if it was necessary. The Na'vi occupation of “Hometree “ was blocking Colonel Quaritch’s access to a large pile up of unobtanium beneath the tree.

So, he follows the rules and does what he is supposed to do. However, the more he gets involved with the avatar project the more he starts to realize his true self and what ultimately makes him happy. This causes him to push the boundaries and look for change. In turn, this shows transformational as well as a charismatic style of leadership. “The Sky People have sent us a message... that they can take whatever they want. That no one can stop them. Well, we will send them a message. You ride out as fast as the wind can carry you. You tell the other clans to come. Tell them Toruk Macto calls to them! You fly now, with me! My brothers! Sisters! Often, individuals that are transformational leaders also present qualities of being a charismatic leader. Jake displays charismatic leadership when Tsu'tey, a member of the Omaticaya tribe, was fatally wounded in the final battle. Tsu’tey insists that Jake is to take the title of Olo'eyktan, which would then make him the tribe leader. Jake is hesitant to accept because he felt that he was not the right person to take on such a title. Moreover, Tsu’tey wanted Jake to kill him in order to end his pain, but Jake was unwilling to do so despite those being his wishes.
