Jack the Ripper was an infamous serial killer who killed at least five London female prostitutes in 1888. Never captured, his identity is one of English's most famous unsolved mysteries. Today, Jack the Ripper is one of the most, if not the most, famous serial killer ever. There are many theories on who Jack the Ripper is, and why he killed, but none of these theories were ever proven. Jack the Ripper is simply a lone assassin who “officially” killed four prostitutes and got away without ever being caught and convicted of his crimes.
Many people ask, why is Jack so famous? and the reason behind that is the Press would often lie about the murders. During the time of these murders Press had little to no information so in order to make a story they often created false leads and exaggerated details which often threw off police for they would sometimes follow these false leads.. It is also said that some journalists wrote fake letters to the Police giving them false leads to follow. So with the false information they were giving out and the Diabolical name created, “Jack the Ripper” it was hard not to look into. The media created him in the people’s eyes as a monster and to look out and that’s how he became so famous.
The victims of the crimes were four prostitutes from London named Mary Nichols, Annie Champan, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes, and Mary Kelly. These were the only named victims of Jack the Ripper, but there is speculation on some earlier murders that could’ve been him which included, Martha Tabram, Alice McKenzie, and Frances Coles. Enclosed in the letter was half of the kidney of Catherine Eddowes, a victim of Jack the Ripper. Jack in the letter tells Mr. Lusk that he fried up and ate the other half of the kidney. Jack signs the letter, “Catch me when you can Mishter Lusk.” However the police, at the time, thought the letter were pranks and were not taken seriously.
Jack the Ripper is an unknown serial killer who was never caught and brought to justice after killing and disemboweling four young prostitutes. Even though there were over 300 suspects investigated the police had insufficient evidence to ever prove anyone guilty. Jack the Ripper is one of the most Mysterious and infamous serial killers for his sick public figure and the lies the press spread to make a story out of it.
