Why is Macbeth still relevant in modern day society? The Tragedy of Macbeth was written, produced and thought to have been first performed in 1606. The play itself dramatizes the physical and psychological effect of political ambition on those who seek power for their own good. The play begins with a brave Scottish general named Macbeth who receives a prophecy from 3 wicked witches who explain to him one day he will become the King of Scotland. With his mind consumed by ambition and dared on by his fellow wife, Macbeth murders King Duncan and takes the Scottish throne as his own. One man comes to mind when comparing someone to Macbeth is President Richard Nixon, who was given the name “King Richard”. Nixon was a man seized with “vaulting ambition and a desire for power, control and paranoia to out match that of Macbeth. His famous wiretapping of Democratic headquarters was illustrative of both his ambition and his paranoia, accepted not from prophesies but from past experiences with political losses. Macbeth killed and lied his way to the throne of Scotland, the lies and blood on his hands of his many victims eventually sent the man impractical and lead to his death by MacDuff. Both men become paranoid and sent insane from just not the fact of becoming leaders of their given country or kingdom but from endless lies and guilt they had to sleep with each night in the process to become who they were in that period of time. Sadly we still see this occurrence in the world and society we live in because human nature hasn’t changed for thousands of years, the government or political party of any given country around the globe have been covering up lies and scandals from the public to create the world and society as we see
