The stage props, scenery, and special effects aided in making this the award winning play it is. The style and tone when first entering the play was a background with a fairytale landscape with the main actors’ homes located behind them as part of the background drop. The design concept lets you see into their separate cut out homes with a lift of one drop, but is more viewed in its’ “Into the Woods” or large forest setting for most the play. The one used most during the play is of trees in front of a Cyclorama that projects a dark green light that makes the forest feel dark and mysterious with a moon that appeared from time to time to represent it being late at night. The most obvious special effect was a projection used with a picture of Cinderella’s dead mother that appeared on the tree in the beginning when she visited about her wish to go to the Prince’s festival. An interesting effect was seeing a scrim put to use for a Lil Red’s Grandmothers house that the audience could see inside of as soon as Red entered and by shining light from behind it. Knowing now that is actually a cloth that can look so realistically painted on the outside and the walls becoming so transparent you could see what went on behind its’ closed door. Before knowing of a scrim it would have been just dismissed as possibly a thin plastic or something instead. There was also turntable located towards the back of the stage that seemed to be in a rake position for most of the play but could turn around and be a platform and it was used throughout the play to depict their travels as surface areas changing just like in a real forest. It was used to depict a cliff of some sort that the Baker’s wife falls off of and dies right after the prince leaves her in the woods after their secret love Fest in the forest. Lil Red sings about always listen to your mother since she had been disobedient when talking to the wolf and was fooled by his kindness when mother would have known the whole time. This play lets you know that the grass is not always greener on the other side and that blissful happiness is unobtainable with what life may throw at you. Not that someone is destined to be unhappy because with every struggle you manage to get through will end in happiness, just not necessarily the one that one a person would dream up for themselves. This show also puts focus on working together been more important and effective. Even in the begging the Baker wanted to go on the quest for items that would break the spell alone. He wanted her to be safe, she came anyway, but it wasn’t until he ran into her sad because he has not found all of the items that he realizes they have done better at the times they worked together on this quest. He is conflicted about leaving his baby and working with the others believing that without her specific team work with him that he could no longer be a father and the child would be better off with the princess Cinderella. In the book Into The Wild the main character Alex did some questionable things. Although he did some unusual things, he was sane. Alex was well educated and highly respected by everyone who knew him.
Color, for writers through the ages, has been a telling element. A Midsummer Night’s Dream should be no exception to this element. The characters of the story tell a tale of magic; complete with fairies, potions, and a donkey’s head. People often have nicknames to describe details about themselves. Nicknames are not self-created but given to the person from friends or even comrades. In “Into The Lake Of The Woods” By Tim O' Brian, this is the case with John Wade, a former soldier that was nicknamed “Sorcerer”. John Wade is named Sorcerer because of use of magic in his youth and how the men is his squad would feel protected because of his magical powers. As Sorcerer is Wade's alter ego, it seems that it goes on to cost him dearly later in his life. Wade eventually ends up becoming governor of Minnesota and tries to run for U.S Senate. He loses in a landslide victory to his opponent as evidence of the My Lai incident is uncovered. His actions as Sorcerer start to make his life for the worse. It is seen later that Wade's wife, Kathy, is missing and Wade is soon suspected as he remains calm and not involved in the search party. O’Brien does not make it clear on how it Kathy's disappearance occurs but it is clear what happens. Sorcerer arrives again in John Wade as he pulls one final magic trick: to make Kathy disappear....forever.
Conrad Richter's book, The Light In The Forest, is about a boy from Pennsylvania who was adopted into an Indian family. After a long period of time, True Son had to go back to his white family. The ordeal in the story is that he wanted to go back to the Indians and not stay in the white village. When he came back, he made a big mistake and got kicked out of the Indian village. In my opinion, Cuyloga made the most difficult decision in the novel when he decided to send True Son away at the end.
Sometimes a character may be pushed over the edge by our materialistic society to discover his/her true roots, which can only be found by going back to nature where monetary status was not important. Chris McCandless leaves all his possessions and begins a trek across the Western United States, which eventually brings him to the place of his demise-Alaska. Jon Krakauer makes you feel like you are with Chris on his journey and uses exerts from various authors such as Thoreau, London, and Tolstoy, as well as flashbacks and narrative pace and even is able to parallel the adventures of Chris to his own life as a young man in his novel Into the Wild. Krakauer educates himself of McCandless’ story by talking to the people that knew Chris the best. These people were not only his family but the people he met on the roads of his travels- they are the ones who became his road family.
The theme of the play has to do with the way that life is an endless cycle. You're born, you have some happy times, you have some bad times, and then you die. As the years pass by, everything seems to change. But all in all there is little change. The sun always rises in the early morning, and sets in the evening. The seasons always rotate like they always have. The birds are always chirping. And there is always somebody that has life a little bit worse than your own.
It was good setting to get the attention from the audience and also a way to move around or change settings of the play. Although I love this play my small critic for this play was the players. Some others actors had understandable accents but others didn’t. For example, the brother of the servant his accent was confusing because he kept switching his accent from different country languages. This play was really nice it had a little of bit of everything drama, comedy, romance, betrayal. What like about this play it was how they used the dramatic structure the inciting incident and the climax. The inciting incident for this play of musical comedy murders of 1940 was guessing who the killer of the play was because there was tension building up not knowing who the murder was. The climax for this play would be for me finding out who was the murder and just being in shock how everything had change into a new scenario. Overall it was amazing show how it developed and how well an organized transition the play
Through journal entries, highlighted passages, stories of people’s encounters, and personal experiences, author Jon Krakauer attempts to reconstruct the life of a young transcendentalist man named Chris Johnson McCandless in the biographical novel Into the Wild. McCandless was a 24-year-old young man who completely severed his connection to the world, his family, and all of his tangible possessions in hope to survive off the land in Alaska. In the two years that led to his Alaskan Odyssey McCandless created a new life for himself and lived by the name Alexander Supertramp, in hope to leave his old life behind. Krakauer starts his novel “Into the Wild” by bluntly revealing to the audience that he had only survived 113 days and his remains were found two weeks after preceding his death. Rather than focusing on McCandless death, Krakauer focused on his life. Although Krakauer is biased, he proves to be a credible biographer and proves the assertions he made in his authors note.
The Hippodrome setting played a big role in the success of the play, because the seats were close to the stage, which made the audience feel more intimate with the actors. The set was filled with everyday electronics and video games that were popular with today’s generation, and it was good way to capture the attention of the younger audience. The costumes worked for the actors because they were outfits that teens and young adults would wear, which made it easier to relate to the characters. The lighting for the production was awesome because it went well with the sound effects. For example, when Ian was doing a simulation for his new job, he set off a missile and when it exploded the lights changed from blue to red to symbolize seriousness of the situation.
From the scene set up to the clothes each actor wore it was all very impressing. The scene set up was a beauty shop and was extremely accurate and realistic. The play had four scenes and each scene was a different season. For each season the “beauty shop” was filled with props. In December it was filled with Christmas trees and ornaments. The clothes each actor wore fit each character’s personality. For example, Annelle was seen as very quirky and always would wear “dorky” clothes. The use of spectacle in this play left no room for imagination because they had everything layer out for
Firstly I would set this play in the 21st century so that a modern audience could relate to it. Algernon, one of the main characters in the play, would live in a luxury apartment in the centre of London, over looking the River Thames. His apartment would have a minimalist theme to it and would be influenced by aesthetic; for example he would have a piece of abstract art on the wall for no reason other than that he thinks it looks nice.
This was not my first time to watch a professional ballet dance performance. However, it was my first time to watch the Cinderella. Not only are the lighting design and the stage sets fit the scenes, the music played by the orchestra also make me obsessed with the performance. The performance even added the projection design to make the stage sets more vivid. The tree which stands for the hope for a rescue of Cinderella’s miserable life is the most magical stage set that makes me wonder if the tree really can be physically touched or it just a projection. This tree was used in many scenes and there were a lot of tree geniuses came out to surround and give Cinderella hopes in these scenes. The color of the tree also changed as the scenes changed
