An intelligent software assistant, also called an intelligent software agent, cognitive assistant or cognitive agent, is a software agent that is also an intelligent agent which performs a task with minimum specific directions from users. It evolves from the concept of virtual personal assistant, a cognitive assistant that learns and organizes. Intelligent software assistant combines traditionally isolated approaches to artificial intelligence to try to create a personal-assistant program that improves by interacting with its user.

1. An overview of the category of software that your team is working with
Siri an application for Apple Inc.'s iOS is an intelligent personal assistant and knowledge navigator. A natural language user interface is used by the application to answer the questions, make recommendations, and perform actions by delegating requests to a set of Web services. It adapts to the user's individual preferences over time and personalizes results. Siri in Norwegian, means "beautiful woman who leads you to victory".
Siri application was introduced as an iOS available in the App Store by Siri, Inc., which was acquired on April 28, 2010 by Apple. Siri, Inc. planned to develop the app for for non-Apple platforms (BlackBerry and Android phones) but the development efforts were cancelled after its acquisition by Apple.
Siri was introduced as an integral part of iOS since iOS 5,
- iPhone 4S in October 14, 2011
- 3rd generation iPad with the release of iOS 6
- included in all iOS devices released during or after October 2012.

6. Market trends in the software category
With the development and advances in virtual assistant technology, virtual assistant personalities will also into the cloud due to the immense amounts of data which is needed to be process. With personalities stored in the cloud, this technology will become readily and seamless to smartphones, on TVs, in cars, and in smart homes. Companies like Google and Amazon stand to benefit the most with the establishment of the cloud storage and processing.
