The Inhumanity of Torture
As Eduardo Galeano says, ¨The purpose of torture is not getting information. It's spreading fear.¨ This quote shows that Torture happens on a daily basis causing many people to fear extremist groups because of their actions on innocent people. In Iraq and Syria extremists groups decide to kill and torture beings as a sign of power to enemies. No one is safe in the states of Iraq and Syria because a extremist group could come to your community and kidnap people to use them to torture them or even as sex slaves. The use of torture by extremists in Iraq and Syria is a frightening human rights issue. One human rights issue torture violates is holding someone against their will when they do not wanna be in that situation. …show more content…

According to http://www.express.co.uk/ one woman was subjected to death after violating the Islamic dress code because she was not wearing her black veil. The young woman was only 21 when she was tortured to death by the terrorist islamic group known as ISIS. The woman's last words were “I’m in Raqqa and I received death threats, and when Isis [arrests] me and kills me it’s ok because they will cut my head of and I have dignity it's better than I live in humiliation with Isis.”As you can see, a woman was killed by Isis for not wearing her black veil which is not a good reason to kill someone. This is a major human rights issue. According to http://www.al-monitor.com/ , “It had been 20 days since Mohammed's (20 years of age) arrival in Turkey, after having spent more than three grueling months inside prisons run by the notorious Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) in Syria.”(1) A man named ¨Mohammed¨ was a rebel fighter against ISIS and was captured and put into a prison when he was going over to his visit his mother. The rebel was subject to torture but eventually escaped, “After spending three months in several prisons, Mohammed was freed by the Islamic Front, after fighters took back certain areas in the neighborhood.”(al-monitor.com 1) People subject to torture can suffer from PTSD, physical injury, and even death.     In “The Case For Torture” an article written by Michael Levin, he attempts to justify the use of torture as a means of saving lives. Throughout the article, Levin gives the reader many hypothetical examples in which he believes torture is the only method of resolution. Though I agree with Levin, to some degree, his essay relies heavily on the fears of people and exploits them to convince people into thinking pain is the only way. In certain aspects, I could agree entirely with Levin, but when one reads deeper into the article, many fallacies become apparent.
