As many of you know October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. Breast cancer is a disease that not only affects women in general, but it will have an impact on many of us in some way. It is important for us to get informed of the many disease that can invade our body systems and how we can prevent such disease to interfere with our health. In that in mind, I will be sharing with you what is breast cancer, the stages, and how we can change our lifestyle to prevent this disease. Many assume breast cancer is a disease that happens to women only and can be cured or deadly. So, what is breast cancer? Once a doctor has determined you have a malignant tumor, he or she will like to know how far the cancer has progressed and it is very important. Stage 1 is the less invasive and usually detects that cancer cell have just begun to invade the tissue. Stage 2 is invasive and there is cancer in the axillary lymph nodes or in the breast, also a small tumor. Stage 3 is invasive, and you will likely have a bigger tumor or cancer has spread to the lymph nodes of the breast and axillary. Lastly, stage 5 which Breastcancer.org describes as invasive breast cancer that has spread beyond the breast and nearby lymph nodes to other organs of the body, such as the lungs, distant lymph nodes, skin, bones, liver, or brain. It’s vital that we understand these stages because it will decide what treatment we need and how to control or eliminate the cancer from our breast. Early detection can save lives.
