If the disorder goes untreated, it will cause more long-term side effects and difficulties for the individual as an adult. Adults who have this condition face several adversities in every day life, such as impulsive behavior, low self-esteem and poor work performance. People are not aware of the complications that come with ADHD in adults. Not knowing the symptoms of the disease can cause people to not be sympathetic when they are interacting with someone with disorder.

During my childhood, many of my cousins have been diagnosed with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD. They have been restricted from many different foods with high amounts of sugar because they became “hyper”. Because of the lack of information about ADHD, children are diagnosed very late and they have not received the proper treatment needed. Today, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), have been helping spread information about various diseases including ADHD. While reading the web page, readers may find specific details about the authors’ writing and different tools they used to persuade the audience. The CDC spreads information and provides comfort to parents, and those suffering from ADHD by utilizing rhetorical devices such as logos, ethos, and pathos effectively.

I wake up every morning and think to myself “What am I going to do today?”. It should be a relatively easy question, I usually plan out the following day a day before, but somehow it never seems to work out the way I planned. I get up, get dressed, think about whether I should eat first or take a shower, or maybe I should eat in the shower, maybe I could save less time by… okay, back on track, Shower first-- then eat. I take a shower for way longer than I wanted to, eat, wait… Don’t I have a presentation I need to attend for my class? Never mind… What am I doing? I shouldn’t be on my phone… but look at this cute puppy in the bathtub! This is what it’s like to be in the mind of someone who has ADHD.
As stated previously, medication is the most common option that parents choose for their children. The most common prescriptions are Dexedrine, Cylert, Ritalin, and Adderall. Medication is highly effective. For around 75%-90% of prescribed patients, these work to solve their issues. This is a definite advantage to taking medication is that it is almost guaranteed to work. There are drawbacks to taking medication however; the trial-and-error process, cost of medication, and the side effects that can come with medication. As with any brain chemical medication, there comes a trial-and-error process to determine the right balance and the right amount to really curb the symptoms that come with. Just like any medication that people need to operate, the cost does add up whereas with behavioral therapy, there is no medication to buy and thus no costs. The purpose of this research was to describe and understand Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and the most effective treatment options that are available today. It makes concentration difficult, large tasks seem insurmountable, and causes impulsive and hyperactive tendencies. This research examined journal articles and internet sources on the topic to help unlock the complexities of the disorder through scientific research. It also was a way to separate the myths of the disorder from the truths, while discovering the causes, diagnosis methods, and best treatment alternatives to battle this prevalent disorder.
Information gather by cross-cultural studies shows that rate ADHD vary greatly between different countries and how they view symptoms of ADHD. Based these studies there is no concrete evidence that shows there is clinical brain abnormalities related to ADHD. On the other hand, there is no formal treatment for people who has ADHD besides methylphenidate.
