Informative Speech About Skiing

Upon reviewing my speech, I can understand where I need to improve my speaking skills, as well as places where I just need to fine-tune them. I chose to talk about skiing because it is an activity that I look forward to every winter, and knowing I had a trip out west over break I knew I would be able to talk about this topic easily. Although I do think that I gave an effective speech, I think there were many things to learn from the overall content, organization, and delivery of the speech.
The content of my speech was an area that I think was adequate for an informative speech. It was meant for an audience that may have some knowledge of the sport, whether from experience or just watching it on television, as I spoke about the basic signs …show more content…

It discussed the types, the clothing, and signs, which are very important to discuss the basics of skiing. Each topic had subtopics that added to the quality of the speech to inform about a general overview of skiing. The main ideas were distinguished because each topic had a different sign or notecard to follow a new thought. Each topic related to each other as it started with knowing where to start skiing, to what you would wear, and finished with how to follow signs down a mountain. This was only understood if the topics were thought about, but it was an easy outline for the speech as it was how a skier would decide what to bring on a trip. The introduction mentioned this as I stated this is how I would prepare someone to go skiing. By including my own experience, I gave myself credibility and brought attention to the topic by saying I had been skiing ever since I could walk. It also prepared the audience for what to expect from the speech. The first transition was smooth because it went from overview to the first topic, but the next few transitions could have been improved. I wrote what I wanted to say on the notecard, but when it came time to conclude the paragraph, the transition did not sound as good as I would have like it to. But in the end, the conclusion did cover the entire speech and provided closer for the topic. The conclusion could have summarized every topic one last time, but overall it ended the speech on a high part.
