Hawaii became a state in August twenty first, nineteen fifty nine. Its state number is fifty. In total there is eight islands in Hawaii. The Oahu Island, the Maui Island, the Kauai Island, the Molokai Island, the Lanai Island, and Hawaii referred to as big Island. The Oahu Island is called the gathering place because it is home to the majority of the people in Hawaii. Maui Island got the name Valley Isle, from its beautiful sites making it one of the most popular tourist attractions in Hawaii. The Kauai Island earned the nick-name Garden isle because, it is home to rainforest’s forking rivers and waterfalls. Also, it is the oldest and northernmost island in Hawaii. The Molokai Island has the highest sea cliffs in the world. Also, it has Hawaii’s longest fringing reef. The lanai island doesn’t have a single traffic light. Also Lanai Island also has some beautiful cliff views. And is home to the Garden of the Gods, another one of Hawaii’s amazing views. Hawaii got the name Big Island because, it is the biggest and the youngest island in Hawaii even though it is still eighty hundred thousand years old. Poi is made from the corm of the taro plant it is cooked then it is mashed into a liquid doe water is added upon mashing the poi and upon eating it. It is called one finger two finger or three finger depending on the consistency. Long Island also known as a diverse community to many people helps many of us come more aware of other cultures and religions. Having a combination of different religions and life living together makes us more known to the world. We as an island surrounded of millions of people don’t appreciate the unique and wonderful things that are being given to us. Others like tourists or people from all around the world might not feel the same way though. In many nations around the world people don’t get to experience the social interactions and bandings one might get to feel and understand.
Mauna Loa is Earth’s largest volcano and most massive mountain as it takes up nearly half of the flourishing landscape of the island of Hawai’i. This island is actually made up of five volcanoes, Kohala, Mauna Kea, Hualalai, Mauna Loa, and Kilauea, all in such close proximity that they fused together to form one whole island. Mauna Loa is located in the south central area of Hawai’i, in the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park and its coordinates are 19°5' N, 155°6' W. It is 13,680 ft above sea level, but if one measures from its true base on the ocean floor, it is estimated to be 30,080 feet tall. Its name is quite fitting as it means “Tall Mountain”.

Hawai'i is a land full of diverse people and ideas, starting from the Polynesians who decided to cross the ocean to settle and form the traditions practiced today by the Hawaiians. Unlike many other states, the beliefs of Hawai'i have managed to stay alive. Its unique culture is what attracts tourists most. Many people see it as a vacation spot, full of fun attractions and say, “When I go to Hawai'i I'm going to get some Hawaiian tattoos, they look so cool!” or “I'm going to buy a hula skirt, they're really pretty!” But all those hula dances and tattoos are not just for show. People do not know that there is more to it than ink or hip swaying; behind every hula skirt and every tattoo there is a story. Hawai’i’s culture consists of the significance of its dances, tattoos, and traditions that give Hawaiians their unique lifestyle.
It has been in business since it was a grass shack in 1846. The desire to study the earth forms the park's main theme, coming close behind is biology. Thousands of unique organisms have gradually isolated Hawaiian islands. These are reminders of Polynesian pioneers who directed their great hulled canoes to Hawaii about 1,500 years ago. With the lava flowing at a rate of 800 to 1,300 gallons per second from vents on the east side zone of Kilauea, more than 500 acres of new land have been added to the island since 1938.

Hawaii is the United States most recent and 50TH state. Hawaii joined the United States in 1959 and is located in the Pacific Ocean 2,100 miles southwest of the mainland United States. Hawaii is the only state in the United States that’s composed of islands and it is the only state not located on the continent of North America Hawaii is an island chain of eight major islands, several atolls, numerous smaller islets, and undersea seamounts in the North Pacific Ocean that extends 1,523 miles long. There are an estimated 1.4 million people that reside in the state of Hawaii. The eight main islands in Hawaii including Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lānaʻi, Kahoolawe, Maui and the Island of Hawaii. The language that spoken in this state are mainly English and Hawaiian. There are multiple reasons why Hawaii is very diverse, from the cuisine to culture than other states in the United States.
I chose to write my essay on these two cultures, because they are both native to their land, and they were both overthrown, for lack of a better word, from their homeland by more “Civilized” people. They were both thriving, self sufficient cultures that were living and progressing fine on their own. But others saw them as primitive and wanted to change them. This is what I think they have most in common.
The people and the culture make you appreciate the type of paradise tat you are in. The houses aren’t the best and the schools aren’t the biggest. But everyone seems to be happy with what they have. There seems to be a type of brotherhood that the Hawaiians have. They may not show it but you do receive that kind of vibe when you interact with them. I gathered the fact that Hawaiians, as a society, look after each other, irregardless if they know each other or not. With that attitude, you can learn to appreciate what you have.
Otherwise, your stomach would be growling until your next one after this! The Hawaiians have developed a unique diet of fish, shellfish, and edible plants. These foods include taro root, sugar cane, sweet potatoes, yams, a fish called mahimahi, and much more. The abundance of edible plants you can find in Hawaiian originally brought by the first Polynesian voyagers and settlers to arrive at Hawaii in ancient times. Later immigrants from Japan, Portugal, China, and The Philippines arrived in Hawaii during the 1800’s as laborers for the sugar plantations, and they brought food from their homeland too. This impacted the Hawaiians’ own cuisine because they started to add parts of the immigrants’ foods to their own like they did with hula. Soon, popular modern dishes were created, like malasadas, saimin, and spam. Malasadas are doughnuts covered in sugar that was inspired by Portuguese sweetbread. Saimin is noodles in a broth mixed with meat, vegetables, and seasoning, created when the Hawaiians were introduced to Asian forms of noodles. Finally, spam is canned meat that has grown very popular with the locals, particularly as spam musubi, a slice of the meat on a block of rice wrapped in seaweed called nori.
The Mauna Loa volcano is located in Hawaii and means "Long Mountain" in Hawaiian. It is a giant, basaltic shield volcano. It is one of the largest volcanoes and mountains in the world and has been called the "monarch of mountains". It has an estimated volume of 9,600 cubic miles and takes up half the land of Hawaii. It extends about 120 km starting from the southern tip of the island to the northern region. It is 97 km (60 miles) long, 48 km (30 miles) wide, and is 8,742 km (28,680 miles) high from the base on the sea floor to the top. The slopes are steeper than 12 degrees and about 4 degrees at the top of the volcano. Mauna Loa formed about half a million years ago and in the middle stages of forming into a shield volcano where lava flows to form a sloped and broad flat domed volcanic cone. Along with Mauna Kea, the Mauna Loa volcano is responsible for the creation of the Hawaiian Islands. Mauna Loa has erupted thirty-three times since 1843 and is known as one of the most active volcanoes in the world today. The last eruption was 1984 and lava flowed within 4 miles of the city of Hilo. This shows that it is dangerous to live anywhere near Mauna Loa and that it poses as a threat to anyone living near it because it has a very high possibility of erupting within a very short span of time.
