While in New York City on a warm Sept. morning in 2012, we sat in attendance at a conference dedicated to the Nintendo Wii U to learn of its launch date, price, and software lineup. What awaited us was something no one expected. At this event, Nintendo announced that Platinum Games’ Bayonetta 2 would be a Wii U exclusive, and gamers worldwide were stunned. Now, after two years of waiting, Platinum Games’ Wii U masterpiece is ready to amaze and excite gamers with its lavish visuals and wonderful gameplay. The battle of Saratoga was a significant turning point in the American Revolutionary War. This key conflict was, in fact, two significant battles that shaped America’s struggle for independence. The battles were fought 18 days apart in the same location - 9 miles south of Saratoga, New York. John Burgoyne, the British General, had an initial strategy to divide New England from the southern colonies. This was at first successful when the British took Pennsylvania, but hit a snag when Burgoyne met the Continental Army at Freeman’s Farm on September 19, 1777 - the first of the Saratoga battles. This was a tactical victory for the British, but it came at a price, as their casualties were heavy. It was known that the British won this Battle at Freeman’s Farm, but in actuality, they didn’t have many troops left. On October 7, in the Battle of Bemis Heights, the second Battle of Saratoga, Britain attacked America again as Burgoyne took the offensive. The troops crashed together south of the town of Saratoga, and Burgoyne's army was broken and his command captured. At this battle, the Americans were able to capture a large number of British troops, ultimately resulting in Burgoyne’s surrender on October 17, 1777. The Battle of Saratoga is well known to be “one of the most important victories of the conflict and an early success for the colonists.” The victory gave new life to the American cause at a critical time. The cult classic movie The Princess Bride has a connection to the Greek myth of Pomona and Vertumnus and to Apollo and Daphne’s tale. They share a similar theme of disguised seduction that is crucial to the plot. This being one using deceit or a disguise to make the one they are after fall in love with them. These are not the only stories that use this theme, but they are the most notable.
In the film, “The Princess Bride,” directed by Rob Reiner, it all begins with a Grandfather telling the story to his less than enthusiastic Grandson. The story opens in the country of Florin with Buttercup treating her “Farm Boy” not so well, “his name was Wesley, but she never called him that. “Very soon she realizes he loves her and she loves him in return. He sets off for America “to make his fortune across the sea.” She later finds out that he and his ship have been murdered by the Dread Pirate Roberts “who never leaves captives alive.”
He is strongly enticing by the devils deal which sadly results in a downfall. His wife is a miserly woman. She also is tempted by the devils deal and brings all her valuables to compromise with the devil but it doesn't end quite well. I was able to listen to two versions of the story surrounding the Jersey Devil while conducting research for this assignment. The first story teller is an 18 year old female from Rockaway, New Jersey. This town is a suburban community in northern New Jersey with the majority of residents belonging to the economic middle class. I collected this story during a trip to see my parents on April 1, 2006 at the story teller’s home. She told me the story shortly after dinner so it was nearly dark when she told me the story. The second story teller is a 15 year old female that is also from Rockaway, New Jersey. This story teller also told me the story of the Jersey Devil on April 1, 2006, and also delivered the story from her home during dinner.
While visiting the battlefield I knew there were two major parts of the battle I wanted to discuss, the Battle at the Crater and the part that African-American soldiers played in the battle. After the initial attack on Petersburg that lasted until June 19, 1864, some of IX Corps picket line set up four hundred feet from Eliot’s Salient, which was a part of the main Confederate line. The Union soldiers then created a plan to construct an explosive mine under the salient to surprise the Confederates and hopefully shorten the siege. After weeks of planning and preparing the mine, it was exploded at 4:45 a.m. on July 30th. The Battle of Yorktown was the final cry of the Revolution. Here, the colonists made their final stand and declared themselves free of the oppressive British regime.. This battle resulted in the forced retreat of the British presence, and the birth of a free country. In the absence of this event, the American Revolution would have continued on for an extended period of time.

Nintendo Gamecube seems mismatched as it goes up against the Microsoft Xbox and the Sony Playstation 2 (a multimedia mayhem that Sony says it’s supposed to be “The Future Of Entertainment”). All this makes you think; what makes Nintendo believe it can possibly go up against the ultra-sophisticated Xbox.
“Is this a kissing book?” the young boy asks his grandfather in disgust as he lies ill in bed.
