Since three-forth of the world is composed of bodies of water, it’s natural that a great number of people rely on fishing for their livelyhood or just for their recreation needs. There are numerous of fish species swimming under the lakes, seas, ponds, and rivers. Most anglers consider fishing as the delight in their purpose-driven life, a sport, as they say.
Bass fishing, at present, is considered as America’s number one freshwater sport, its industry is in fact seventy percent higher in growth compared to other types of fishing activities. There are two things that should be considered in bass fishing, which are, the bass location on the lake or river and bass catching using different techniques, presentations and baits.
In locating bass dwellings, there are lots of different factors that have to be determined like map-reading, how to locate active bass just after cold fronts and during early spring and late fall periods, understanding water depth, water clarity, temperatures, seasonal patterns, locating structure areas and finding their vegetation areas.

...t is all the same. The largemouth bass is native to North America but can now be found in ponds and lakes all around the world. It is the most popular freshwater game fish and many strive to catch one that is monster-sized. “Only ten percent of the water at any given time possesses the combination of ideal characteristics, and in that ten percent of water is where the majority of bass will be” (The Behavior and Habits of Largemouth Bass). The bass will often be found at the bottom of the body of water which often is that ten percent, whether that bottom is at a few inches or as deep as 100 feet. Although they cannot always have clear water with abundant vegetation, they still continue to survive and reproduce. As the year progresses, and the season changes, the largemouth bass will continue to be affected both positively and negatively, changing all of their habits.
Stronger currents at this location of the river attract many who enjoy rafting and tubing down river on hot summer days. For the most part the banks of the river have virtually gone untouched allowing the natural beauty of the river’s vegetation and wildlife to flourish. As you float down the river you can experience the sights of baby ducks swimming behind their mother, otters, several species of birds, an occasional bald eagle, and beautiful wildflowers lining the banks, all a part of the area’s natural habitat. The vegetation of the sand and soil riverbed support an abundance of species of fish. Trout, steelheads, and salmon are the most sought after fish in the Muskegon, there is also a substantial population of smallmouth bass, walleye, and pike. It persists from one generation to the next due to the fact, that many do not understand it to be harmful to the environment; others may enjoy the idea of letting commercial fisheries catch large numbers of fish as it continues to keep some of Americans favorite meals low cost. Devastating fall out from neglectful thinking about netting will occur in the future if preservative action toward this way of life is not taken. Minimizing the use of nets in waterways will ensure salmon and other fish survive for many more generations to come, allowing this plentiful food source given to us by Mother Nature to be exploited and enjoyed by our future kin. Just as in any other sport, understanding gives rise to advantage and success. As serious fishermen, we had dedicated much thought to understanding the fish, hypothesizing their behavior. One understanding we had already gained through previous experiences was that fish readily eat the prey that is normally available. This, we concluded, was a sort of defense against fishermen and their foreign lures and was acquired through the fishes’ own previous experience of eating a lure. In applying this understanding to our fishing, we performed a routine food chain analysis to find out what our lures needed to imitate. The results were that the part of the food chain just beneath our quarry consisted mostly of small fish such as anchovies and young yellowtail, smaller than those shad and bluegill normally eaten in freshwater ponds. To compensate for this difference we would have to use lures smaller than those we were used to using. Luckily we had some.
First, when fishing, equipment is very important. It would not be prudent to bring knife to a gunfight, and fishing is just the same. When catching 500 lb. swordfish in saltwater it is important to not bring an ultra-light fly rod. The first step to having the correct equipment is identifying the species to be targeted. Let’s say the target is black bass. Then it id important to have a bait-casting reel with 15 to 20 lb. test line, and a heavy action rod with plenty of length for good hook set. Now I’m not saying it is impossible to catch a bass on lighter tackle, and there is probably fun to be had doing it as well. It is just that this is the most efficient way. Lures and or bait are also extremely important pieces of equipment when fishing. Some examples of lures for black bass would be spinners, jigs, plastic worms, top-water lures, and buzz baits. Bait for black bass fishing would be live minnows, crawfish, or worms, and some dead baits work too such as cut pieces of shad.
