Increasing the law includes a variety of actions carried out by different entities within law enforcement. Information sharing has increased considerably throughout all levels of law enforcement allowing for improvements in the capability to identify, prevent, and react to different levels of crime. Sharing information isn’t a solitary combined method, but rather it combines efforts at all levels. A common approach contains circulated sharing methods with lets each department retain their information while also making it available for others.
Interagency Cooperation Disaster and crime extend beyond the city borders so task forces and interagency cooperation help ensure that departments will get assistance when needed even if it’s coming from other jurisdictions. Mutual aid agreements have become a vital means for fighting numerous crimes and backing up other departments in order to accomplish a particular goal. The monetary influence from programs administered by the Executive Branch with such programs as COPS, helps bring new technologies to local police agencies, thus impacting policing. Moreover, the federal law enforcement’s creation of new crime fighting technologies, eventually make their way into the state and local police departments. This supports the idea that both the Legislative and Executive Branches influence law enforcement; however, the Executive Branch provides a more direct and active influence.
With consideration to law enforcement responses at Ruby Ridge and Waco, as a public manager, my takeaway is how critical collaboration is to the successful outcome of a crisis. Both responses had many different moving parts that appeared to function without effective collaboration. Effective collaboration could have provided a vetting capability for decisions. For instance, the rules of engagement revision made by the Federal Bureau of investigation (FBI), at Ruby Ridge, could have prevented the unnecessary death of Vicki Weaver, if the decision required higher authorization for approval.
Organizations are encouraged to adapt and changes their tactics to combat crime. The method has also been adopted by other law enforcement agencies. Other agencies including Los Angeles police department and Philadelphia police department.
