Individual Integrative Learning Project The information that I have learned in Introduction to the Doctoral Business Administration (DBA) course will help me to prepare for both the DBA program and my career. The first concept I learned was the proper use of APA format. The second concepts were the impact of the required books in this course that helped challenge my current form of thinking. Thirdly, was that the Introduction to the DBA online was a new experience. I had never attended an online course only traditional classroom setting. Introduction to APA format is something that I had to relearn. I do remember using the APA format during my associates program. Once I decided to major in business administration the MLT format was preferred. …show more content…
I could not put down the books. These books challenged my current form of thinking. The author Mcraney provided wonderful examples of practical theories and why people believe their own conclusions of life facts. It challenged that there are no coincidences in life. However, these coincidences are simply thoughts that the mind has created. These thoughts are fabricated into our personal ideas and conclusion. Our thoughts are than processed to connect to our own memories that will help us to label different situations. The book provided examples of the actual fact followed by the truth of certain perceptions. The author suggests that people tend to make assumptions of everyday situations. This book however, challenges everyday thoughts and makes us process our logical thinking. People often create their own assumptions based on past experiences. In this book he gives us examples of everyday situations and works through the reason why people believe certain theories and how they can redirect their thought process. I did enjoy how the author provided examples of real everyday situations. Followed by explanations as to why our thought processes are not real, however, merely what our mind has assumed to be
While reading the book Mindset by Carol S. Dweck I learned much about my personal learning style, the realization about how I work with others, and how much an attitude or preconceived idea can influence how I live my life. This also directly impacts my thoughts as an aspiring teacher. All of which have made me come to the realization that as a teacher I will need to be aware of not only my mindset but also be aware of how students can be influenced by their mindsets.
I read two books so I can discuss, compare and contrast their philosophy, find the pros and cons of each philosophy, and see if these two philosophies apply to my life. The first book I read was The Four Agreements. The author’s name is Don Miguel Ruiz. Ruiz comes from a family of healers. They wanted him to follow in their footsteps, but he decided to become a surgeon. He had a near death experience and this experience changed his life. He and a few of his friends were driving when he fell asleep at the wheel and his car crashed into a concrete wall. He had an out of body experience. He remembered pulling his friends away from the car. Afterwards, he devoted his life to learn more about self- inquiry. He learned the mastery of the ancient
All I had ever known was MLA so it was quite a shock when I found out I would have to learn how to cite in APA. The first thing I did when I found out how we were going to cite our papers was go to Easybib to have the website to it for me. Turns out Easybib wants you to pay them if you want your sources cited in APA format. Once I found that out I scoured the web to find a website that could do it for me. I could not find a dependable site anywhere so I had to go look in the english book on how to cite. When I got to the section on citing sources in my book I realized that this is where I should have went right from the start. The book had every type of citation you would ever have to use. But even after I found out how to properly cite my sources, it was still another question for me
This book was a good read for me, but I also read book reviews to help me keep track on what I am reading. These book reviews just made a better understanding of what I was reading.
In this essay I am going to summarize Fran Horowitz’ article “Child Development and the PITS.” I will be using the summary to explain Horowitz’ notion of integrative theory. I will also be using the theory to guide how I practice research and how this theory benefits the research that I do.
Throughout my education journey, I have had the opportunity to learn theories that have helped others including me in the past. Jean Piaget’s theory is a great example. Piaget’s theories have helped a lot of students overcome difficulty in learning. While I consider his theory to my knowledge, I have been given the opportunity to come up with my own personal learning theory that has been a big help to my learning experience. I am very encouraged because I have had educators in the past who have helped me figure out what works best for me. Thomas Shuell helps us realize that; “learning is one of the most important activities in which humans engage” (2016, para.1). We learn new things in life and when we learn, it gives us the opportunity to gain experience and use these skills for real life situations. “It is at the very core of the educational process, although most of what people learn occurs outside of school” (Shuell, 2016, para.1). A lot of us become great problem solvers because of different types of learning theories.

Making the impossible possible is worth reading because it it shows how Strickland became very successful along with some of his students. ...e preceding reasons, all college students should read the book. The book will captivate the educated mind, and most importantly, will cause that mind to think and to question why things happen as they do.
I’ve made it my passion to be a life-long learner to sharpen my skills, abilities and God-given talent. When an individual doesn’t make a conscience effort to expand their minds, then they are actually making a decision to begin to digress. Being an older college student, my desire is to learn everything that I possibly can with the aid of Victory University. It was fascinating reading about Rene’ Descartes who grew up in France. Descartes was also a life-long learner. He was the thinker and writer who coined the phrase, “I think, therefore I am” (Gluck, Mercado, & Myers, 2014, p. 7). Although Descartes existed during the time of the Renaissance, his theory that the eyes were significant to stimulating other parts of the body, such as the fingers, arms and legs was brilliant. It is now understood that this” process begins with the stimulus, a sensory event from the outside world entering” through the eyes (Gluck et al., 2014, p. 7).
Throughout high school I dealt with MLA format which I never truly understood because it was not emphasized on. Now that I am in college, however, it is a completely different story. I’m not going to say that I struggled immensely with APA format, but it did take some getting used to. Instead of freewriting where formats are thrown out the window for idea creation, I had to stick with set rules on how a paper should look and how information should be organized and presented. After a few papers with the grand finale of the “research supported cause/effect essay,” citing sources and notating references seemed much easier. Being able to use different techniques to cite sources will allow my future papers to flow and allow the reader to not be bored to death. Referencing sources properly will keep my papers from being flagged as plagiarized and authors will get their due credit because I know I would not like my work to be claimed as someone else’s. With all of the writing in the future I will need to do for college and my business writing, Writing 101 has ensured a bright start for all of
Being a self-directed learner motivated by your own needs and wants entails certain criteria. A key concept of self-directed learning is to put yourself to have no external motivation or at least very little. You must be the director of your life and education not allowing menial disturbances to interfere. You have to be very independent In your decisions and lifestyle. Being independent gives you a strong base for your personality, not allowing it to be easily diminished. Being strong and independent allows you to not be weakened by failure and to be more persistent in your work. If you fail at a task you 're more willing to continue if you have a strong independent lifestyle.
This course will also enable me to better understand if an MS Access application would work better than some of the systems I use to today. MS Access is an application that I have at my disposal, but don't utilize. Learning more about Access will help me organize some of the data I currently maintain in spreadsheets. Generating reports and performing some trending will help in communicating this information to department leadership. The information that I take away from this class will be important to my career; the key is to utilize what I learn!
I like to refresh my memory on the concepts this book has to offer. Every time I go back and read it again, it always offers new information that I have seemed to look over, so I’m constantly applying that new information that I catch. This is a great book because it actually offers helpful information that you are able to use in your daily life. It provides daily exercises that you are able to do throughout the day to remind yourself to stay on track. “One of the best ways to bring more truth into your life is to conduct a quick self-assessment. Assign a numerical rating to each area of your life using a simple 1-10 scale” (pp.20-21). The assessment list it provides things such as money & finances, career, habits, daily routines, health, social life and spiritual development. This activity makes you go into introspection and really look at how your ratings and see what area of your life is needing improvement and what areas is your life you are already doing well
