The activity made me learned that most injuries that happened in the hospital are caused by improper manual handling and that cist a lot of money to the NHS due to staff calling off sick due to back, leg or shoulder pains. This made me realize that I am also one of the many staffs who consciously or unintentionally doing the wrong handling of items or patients, therefore, I also become more aware of how my body pains came from after long work, In order for me to deliver care to my patients and protect myself I need to learn how to perform proper manual handling which was taught and shown during this training. The proper used of sling, banana board, rota stand and pat slide helps me a lot to prevent injuries and promote safety to my patients.
Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs) are caregivers that work close to the elderly patients, also called residents. The CNAs are responsible for taking viral signs and helping the residents with activities of the daily living, such as: bathing, walking, eating, toileting, dressing and transferring. Taking care of patients that are not able to perform common tasks, like using the bathroom, can be difficult. For that reason, a great number of CNAs get injured in their work setting every year. In order to minimize the risk of work-related injured inside long-term care facilities, the facility should impose a non-lift policy and increase the use of lift machines, such as hoyers.

Health Improvement Scotland coordinated the Scottish Patient Safety Programme created to improve the safety of patients across Scotland (NHS Scotland, 2010a). Four groups were created to manage patient safety, one of which was established to supervise care within an acute adult setting (NHS Scotland, 2010a). During my practice learning experience a male patient was brought into the accident and emergency department following a serious assault, he had suffered severe lacerations to his head, face and hands. Prior to arriving, ambulance staff did not call to warn nursing and medical staff. As a result, the team were unprepared and the patient was brought into the wrong area within the department. The patient should have gone straight into the resuscitation area where the appropriate equipment is available, in case of patient deterioration (Brooker and Nicol, 2011).
In conclusion, it is evident that patient falls can cause a multitude of problems and for many hospitals and nursing facilities falls seem to be an issue. Working to reduce these falls with more than one intervention has proven beneficial. Preventing the number of falls in a hospital will not only work to prevent the injuries that arise when a patient has fallen it will also help to reduce the number of times a patient is readmitted to the hospitals, and delaying patients recovery.
I gave comfort care educations for patient’s family. I taught patient and family how to reposition in order to prevent pressure ulcer. In addition, I taught them the benefit of placing pillows behind the patient 's back so that he stays in position and also placing a pillow between the legs to prevent friction. In addition, I show them how to put elbow and heel protection.

During the football emergency activity I felt prepared to perform the skills of spine boarding. I have been educated on these skills in CPR class, and just recently reviewed them in athletic training practicum. Last year I was fortunate enough to get the experience of working with Football. During my football rotation we practiced spine boarding every single weak to keep are skills very inefficient. When it comes to a high contact sport such as football efficiency and quickness are necessities. Practicing these skills every week allowed each student to perform stabilizing of the head.
