How often do you talk to yourself? A famous proverb says that when people talk to themselves, they are usually intelligent people. What does self-talk mean? Well, it means that you think loudly to yourself. There are many people who often talk to themselves because they usually think that it is the best way to remember what they have to do. Speaking as a student, students always talk with themselves; although when you see them, you feel like they have a discussion or conversation with somebody instead of themselves because they are talking so loudly. Self-talk sometimes assists you to have the right answer to homework because you think so loudly. As a result, you will be able to catch your mistakes. In my opinion, self-talk is a beneficial …show more content…
What I meant by correcting our mistakes is that when we talk to ourselves loudly, we will hear our mistake not just for the studying. However, it might also help us to correct our agenda of the day while we are speaking to ourselves. For example, when I was in my country, I took French. In addition, I had to talk to myself and say whatever the words are in French to see if I pronounced them well just, like what the teacher pronounced in the class, or the opposite. If I did not say it right, I tried as much as I could to correct it with the use of self- …show more content…
A famous wise saying says that Self-talk helps you to punish or reward yourself, so you will be a good person. For example, I always talk to myself every night to see what I did wrong in the day and try to fix it. I might say or do something that I did not pay attention to, and it might have hurt someone’s feeling. So, while I am talking to myself, I say, “wait a second why did I say or why did I do that?” That is not respectful to say or act like this. For instance, one time the teacher was asking me one question and all of a sudden, I said, “I do not understand your question” instead of “I do not understand the question.” It was disrespectful to the teacher. When I went home I talked to myself then, I went to the teacher and explained that I did not mean to be
What is self-harm / self-harm? Self harm happens when you hurt or harm yourself. There are many ways to do so. “…talk is arguably the true foundation of learning”. (Alexander, R. 2011:9) Critically discuss this statement in relation to children’s learning in two of the core subjects.
This is also the type of communication that I prefer to engage in. According to the works, INTRAPERSONAL COMMUNICATIONAND IMAGINED INTERACTIONS, “Intrapersonal communication occurs inside each communicator (Stacks & Sellers, 1989). It takes different forms such as self-talk, inner speech, imagined interaction, day dreaming, listening, and emotional awareness. Intrapersonal communication is considered as the foundation for all communication and a key source for understanding ourselves and our environment (Barker & Edwards, 1980)” (Honeycutt, Mapp, Nasser, and Banner 323). To me intrapersonal communication is very important. I often times find myself walking around not only thinking to myself but I even occasionally talk out loud to myself. In order to make a decision on just about anything I must talk to myself. I noticed that it is a lot easier to talk to myself than to talk to another person. One reason being, no one will judge you if they don’t know what you are you thinking about or saying. Talking with yourself only allows yourself to judge you. Speaking from personal experience, I often times tend to not only judge myself but criticize my thoughts and actions based on the comparison to
My portfolio absolutely reflects my understanding of persuasive writing. Persuasive writing focuses on the ability to formulate an essay that takes an argumentative stance, but takes the opposition into consideration as well. My portfolio also represents the goals and objectives of persuasive writing. The essays I have written for this course demonstrate that I have certainly developed my critical thinking skills, and developed, or better yet, mastered my communication and personal responsibility skills; but, because of my occasional lack of analysis and issues with word choice, my writing process is not perfected.
Erik Erikson composed a theory of psychological development that was composed of eight stages. Erikson’s theory focuses on how personalities evolve throughout life as a result of the interaction between biologically based maturation and the demands of society. According to Erikson, “Each stage of human development presents its characteristic crises. Coping well with each crisis makes an individual better prepared to cope with the next.” (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2013, p. 314) According to Erikson’s eight stages of development, I have only been through six of the eight stages.
Communication affects self-concept and self concept affects how one communicates. If one has poor self-concept and sees oneself as unworthy then they will present themselves this way, which will result in a negative response from people. If one feels good about oneself, they will present themselves as worthy, which will result in a more pos...
Lots of people thinks that they know themselves very well; they have a right way of communication, they know how to listen and respond to others, even emotional intelligence. Is this what you thought? I did. However after I have done my observe behavior interview to my friends, I believe that self-reflection is important to everyone to understand and improve our own communication styles.
“Self-awareness is a psychological state in which people are aware of their traits, feelings and behaviour. Alternatively, it can be defined as the realisation of oneself as an individual entity.” (Crisp & Turner, 2010). In other words, self awareness is recognising one’s personality which includes strengths, weaknesses, thoughts, beliefs and emotions.
Social interactions are the manner in which we socialize and react to other people. Social interaction has been around humanity since the beginning. It is so important that without it, settlements and groups wouldn’t have formed the way we know it today. It is the building block of society, people get together and design rules, institution and select officials to guide their way of living. It means interaction is social relationship among the individuals. It is a sort of action and reaction position among the people. It involves the acts that people do to others and the return the expect. Social interaction consists of many concepts which are: Exchange, competition, cooperation, conflict and coercion.
Hi, my name is Rob Geis and I am currently in grade 12. I have been at County High School for a year now; I joined at the start of 11th grade, and have thoroughly enjoyed myself here. The school is great, the people are fantastic and the atmosphere is one that makes you actually want to go to school. Before I joined ASB I was studying at the Singapore American School for two years and prior to that I was at the International School of Kuala Lumpur for two years. I was born and raised here in Bombay city and grew up here.
Loving yourself is the key to a happy life. When you love all that you are, unconditionally, life reflects that back to you. When you learn to love yourself, fully, you create a happy, loving environment to flourish in. When we lose sight of what’s most important—loving self—we lose sight of our goals and dreams and being happy and healthy. Ultimately, to live a fulfilling life, first and foremost, requires that you love all that you are and trust that life loves you in return.
There are many benefits for a person who increases in self-knowledge and dangers for those who do not. Some benefits for the person who increases their self-knowledge are avoiding mistakes, becoming an expert of themselves and seeking out the deeper truth. An example would be if there was someone who were attempting to cook dinner and a guest wanted steak but they did not know how to cook it. A person who knows themselves would either ask them if they wanted anything else, ask them how to cook it or even for them to cook it themselves if the guest knew how to cook it. During Socrates conversation with Alcibiades, Socrates asked Alcibiades “What if you were sailing in a ship? Would you have an opinion about whether tiller should be moved in or out, and, since you don’t know, would you be confused, or would you turn this over to the helmsman and keep your peace?” (Alcibiades I, 25d). Alcibiades said that he would have turned it over to the helmsman because he knows that he does not know how to sail a ship. Some dangers for a person who does not have self-knowledge are that you cannot improve yourself because you do not know yourself and understand yourself which can lead to carelessness and mistakes. Socrates explained to Alcibiades “Come on, in what way could the self itself be discovered? For in this way we could perhaps discover just what we are ourselves, but if we remain in ignorance of it we’ll be unable to do so, I suppose,” (45b). People have to ask basic questions
.... I have a plan in order to maintain growth and development in all three types of communication. Primarily and most obviously, I must consciously practice all of the skills and knowledge I have learned. Secondly, not being afraid to ask for, and accept, constructive feedback from others will be a huge contributor to recognizing and following up with needs for improvement in any communication areas. Finally, sharing what skills and knowledge I have gained in this class with others will help to improve and maintain my own communication skills by surrounding myself with an environment filled with people who are also competent communicators. The more people who understand effective communication, the better the understanding between each person in society overall. I hope to follow through with all of these propositions to become an even better communicator in the future.
Attitude is everything. Without attitude, it would not define who we are. It is important to see how attitudes can bring people together or how attitudes can also separate people. I thought the author came up with a great explanation of attitude and how there are losers and winners. Losers, of course, will be pessimistic about every situation while winners, will optimist about every situation. The author gave a great analysis of many scenarios and situations. I actually never thought of attitudes beginning as a harmless thought. When I think of attitude, I see it, as a very negative connotation because people are often stating, “Do not give me any attitude.”
Study is necessary to succeed. Study is a good way to develop our mental. Study can increase our experience and knowledge. Study can also train our mind to understand the complexities of the subject chosen and then apply that understanding in practical terms. Through study, we can learn how to discipline ourselves to do something you don’t want to do, which will help us succeed in anything in our life.
