The most worrisome data which concerns everybody is America’s ratio of people aged between 14-24 are losing their interests in cinemas. People of this age group gave a 15% decline in watching a movie at cinemas in 2014. The fall of tickets booking is worse in 2014. Most of it is happening due to “Netflix”. It started to give tough times to big movie makers. Probably the worst threat to traditional movie business is the streaming offered by Netflix. It’s bad enough that Netflix is offering a relatively broad range of TV series and movies produced by a variety of studios. But now, the company is ramping up its own content production — and much of it is aimed directly at young people between the ages of 12 and 24. Now they have their own shows to run and people are taking interest in them. The progression of youths into reckless beings coincides with the progression of adults, though media chooses to emphasize reckless teenagers over reckless middle-aged men. A trip to the movie theater to see the latest teen comedy infiltrates the moviegoer’s mind with the idea that teens behave horrifically, thus harming their reputations (Phan). In addition, vulnerable young minds view the films and feel the need to compensate for their hermited behavior and act similarly to the fictional characters. These actions all contribute to the effort to satisfy pop culture’s image of the ultimate teen, however unrealistic it may be (“Movies Portrayal of High School Misleading”). Finally, the film industry utilizes these exaggerations on purpose, not considering the psychological effects on teens and adults and instead as a means of generating more box office revenue. Going to the movies is probably one of the most enjoyable pastimes throughout the world. From western society to the Asian countries, watching movies is pleasant for nearly anybody. I currently work at the local cinema. Therefore I have decided to study the culture of moviegoers. I looked at many different aspects within the past months. I took time for myself in small, little, breaks to study and document the actions of the people. From their attitudes entering and leaving the cinemas, to the way they behaved and even the way they clothed themselves. I will be going into the field with a general question in mind of what I wish to learn. “How do individuals respond to each other in a moving going experience?” I will also look into how families communicate to each other compared to how a group of friends interact. In contrast to that outsider or etic outlook at our moviegoers, I will take an insider or emic perspective of the site and actually go out on my days off work and watch a movie portraying an actual moviegoer while no one in this culture within Stars will suspect a thing.
Why is the Film Industry one of the largest and fastest growing industries in the world? Simple. People like entertainment. Movies are entertainment. Movies are like books, only they're visual. People like seeing other people cast in roles, and playing out a story. Why not turn to plays instead, you ask? Movies give people the actors and the stories, along with background music, special effects, and overall satisfaction within a 2 hour period of time. Movies can also take you to a physical state that theatre can not. They take you to real physical locations instead of just a cardboard stages. It's the same reason people like television so much.
