Hands-On: Teaching of the Future The art of teaching is constantly evolving. There is constant research, and new ideas being brought up. It has changed immensely from children sitting behind text books, to them now having learning experiences. A learning experience is a hands on activity. Hands on activities are said to be more helpful in a student actually learning, than reading from a book. Why look at a picture of a lion in a book, when the student can go to the zoo and see the real thing? The students is more likely to remember seeing the real lion, than the picture. Hands on activities promote life-long learning, and creativity. Children need constant stimulation. In a world that is fast-paced, and full of flashing lights, it is impossible to ask them to sit still and listen to a lecture. Children are surrounded by technology that is full of color, and movement. These things keep their attention. A teacher sitting in front of a board does not. They never stop learning. They are able to think on a higher level, which is what jobs/careers look for. With such great results this is the way teaching is geared to be. It is a little more costly, but the results are not arguable. If students learn this way, we need to teach this way. Providing students with a feeling that they are in charge of their education gives positive results. If a child is having so much fun, that they do not realize they are learning, they are having a positive learning experience. They are retaining information faster than a teacher can lecture
Locke explains, “Attention and repetition help much to the fixing any ideas in the memory. But those which naturally at first make the deepest and most lasting impressions, are those which are accompanied with pleasure or pain” (8). The majority of classrooms use the former method, so their assistance to students is lessened. Today’s educators must be masters of learning, not necessarily masters of content, and today’s learners must have the skills to adapt to any new situation.
Dweck also promotes that a lesson can be something that can something creative that its only purpose is to develop a growth mindset in students. These creative methods can be something so simple as playing a video and followed by class discussion to group discussion about their own thoughts/meanings or a simple game of “Memory” in order to engage students to learn in a fun
What I learned during the observation is that have a good layout and a good environment setting children are more willing learn and play with the children around them. They need to feel that they are apart of the classroom. That is part of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Need. You environment the classroom need to make children feel safe because if they don’t feel safe they are always going to be on high alert and not pay attached to what going on they are also not going to play or do anything in the classroom. Having the right environment makes it easy for children to explore and learn everything they need have those center or station is not just their for children to have fun and play that because while they are playing and have fun they are learning.

It is imperative that all teachers attempt to integrate these experiences into their classroom as often as possible. These activities usually take more time and energy to plan and implement, but the benefit to the students make the extra work worthwhile.
Experiential Learning is a powerful form of learning. As stated by Lewis and Williams “In its simplest form, experiential learning means learning from experience or learning by doing. Experiential education first immerses learners in an experience and then encourages reflection about the experience to develop new skills, new attitudes, or new ways of thinking.” (1994, p.5). Learning through experience is something that each one of us do in our daily lives, often on a subconscious level. The article focuses on the importance of Hand hygiene in nursing and medical degree students since they also have direct contact with patients. This being my first year of teaching I feel there are so many things that I have learned, and have helped me too become a good teacher. Yet I have so much more to learn, I still believe that students have the ability to learn and as a teacher it is my job to find ways to help them to become the best person they can be. Through being a reflective teacher, using professionalism, respecting diversity and having collaboration and community connecting this can be accomplished. When I am having fun teaching the student will have learning that material, this will help them to be relaxed and engaged in that lesson. I feel it is important to connect what they are learning to things that they have experienced in the real-world.
First off, I will strive to present information in exciting and different ways. I will teach verbally, visually, and hands-on. This way of teaching increases the possibility of drawing all students’ attention, because each student has their preferred way of learning. My time observing was not only educational for me on how to become the teacher I desire to be, but as well as how to better myself as a student and improve my own learning. I observed some wonderful learning tools that I have since implemented into my own education to develop my own learning.
Through classroom observation I was exposed to the different methods of teaching a lesson. The methods of teaching depends on how will the teacher execute the lesson well. I learned that modern learners today needs both modern and traditional way of teaching as for them to fully learned the lesson in a meaningful way.
