Foods are grouped together because they provide similar amounts of key nutrients. For example, key nutrients of the fruit group is a good source of vitamins, especially vitamin C, while milk, yoghurt, cheese and alternatives group that include calcium and protein. Overall, we should have to include the all the five food sources in our diet. It’s not hard to include foods from the five food sources into our snacks and meals. Some suggestions include:
1. Grain Food Sources
Rice, pasta, noodles, bread and cereals – are the foods that high in content of carbohydrates and it will provide energy. We can add pasta or noodles, rice to serves of protein and vegetables for a standard one meal. There are many varieties of this food sources that we can try. We can try to use wholegrains in cereals and breads where it is possible. Overall, people will consume this food sources every day because of they need carbohydrates to provide energy to them. .

2. Fruit and Vegetable Food Sources

We can try to use cottage cheese as a sandwich filling or adding yogurt to breakfast cereal with milk. Besides, we can also shavings of parmesan or cheddar cheese that can be used to top steamed vegetables or a salad. We need to try use mostly reduced fat products. Eating these foods can consume more protein, vitamin D and calcium that will enhance our health and keep our body healthy.

4. Meat/Meat Alternate Food Sources
Eggs, nuts, legumes, lean meat, fish, poultry and tofu – are the foods that can all provide protein to us. It’s easy to include a mixture of protein into meals and snacks. We can try to add lean meat to our sandwich or have a handful of nuts as a snack. We can also add legumes to soups or stews for an evening meal. This will help us to consume more protein.
