Diversity in college is gives us valuable opportunities to meet and learn about other groups of people that vary from our traditional ways of doing things. With diversity, we bring various cultures. Culture is a way of doing things that changes minutely or drastically between different groups of people. A culture is not set to one group of people but can be diverse itself. As America continues to become more diverse do will our colleges. This will carry over into the workplace, and it is a fact of life that we are always going to have with us.

Diversity is something that is different. When we think of diversity in college we first think of race. Having a college diverse with different races is crucial to our learning experience. On the academic side of benefits it is shown to improve cognitive skills (Bowman 2010a). Diversity to me is having certain traits or ways of doing things that are not always the same as everyone else. I find my experience in groups to be much more beneficial and fun if the group I am in is diverse. It opens doors to learn about things that are not typically presented in the classroom learning system. "It seems likely that cognitive tendencies are more malleable than cognitive skills, which suggest that diversity experiences may be able to exert a greater influence on cognitive tendencies."(Bowman 2010) What this quote means is that constant exposure to different people that may make you question your beliefs, and in return draw you to more complex thoughts.
