Having a set of core values can provide many benefits to an organization. One of the benefits is that is can help those within the organization make better, more informed decision (Dennette, 2011). There may be times when, as an employee, you may be faced with a situation where right decision may not be clear. Reviewing your company core values could possibly give you the information you need to make the best decision. Another benefit of having core values is that they can educate individuals both outside and inside of your organization (Dennette, 2011). Having a list of company core values lets other businesses, or potential customers know what is important to your company and whether or not your company is a good fit. If they can relate to your set of core values, it could have the result of encourage them to want to work with you.
The core values that an organization follows can vary from organization to organization. The same can also be said for many Law Enforcement agencies. However, sometimes core values can vary depending on the size of the organization and size of the community in which it operates. However, there are usually a few core values that most departments follow that revolve around the community. Typically, the departments values revolve around some sort of involvement within that community, and the departments commitment to the community they are tasked to serve.

The core values and the mission of an organization are what form the foundation by which those working within the organization work and conduct themselves. There are all sorts of values that an organization can choose to abide by. But some of them are so basic, and so important that even during times of vast change in all aspects of life - society, government, politics, or technology, that they are always going to be followed and abided by. In an ever-changing world, core values are constant. Core values are not descriptions of the work that gets done or the strategies and methods that are employed to accomplish the organizations goals.
