Community development/engagement is interest to me and is important because it increases the likelihood that projects or solutions will be widely accepted which means citizens(students, staff and teachers) who participate in these processes show significant commitment to help make the projects happen. It Creates more effective solutions, it draws on local knowledge from a diverse group which creates solutions that are practical and effective. It empowers and integrates people form all sorts of different backgrounds. Creates local networks of community members therefore the more people who know what is going on and who are willing to work towards a goal therefore the community is more likely to be successful in reaching their goals. According to the Queensland government that have found that they above program has helped and with the following quote from the department themselves “As a result of the strategy, the Engaging Queenslanders resources were developed, online engagement initiatives implemented and coordinated training programs rolled out across departments. In 2005, a review of the strategy showed that it had been effective in building the capability of the public sector to engage with citizens and the community.Community engagement practices are utilised across the Queensland Government to provide citizens with a way to have their say and contribute to important policies, programs and services that affect their lives.” Shows that community development is very important to many people and very important in schools.
Some examples of this being implemented in the school are the kids hops breakfast, fathers day and mothers day stall, Book swap for parents and students to exchange books, toys swap and this is using the same sort of principle as the book swap. is the innovative community action networks-ICAN this s an education department model/initiative to teenage youth and school children in learning who are disengaged in school or who are in serious risks.

This program/model can focus on the following factors/issues:
-Anxiety and depression
- learning difficulties
- social and behavioural problems
- bullying
- homelessness and transience
- family difficulties

This means that students are enable to engage within the community by finding out learning options outside of the school so therefore they can widen the links with other community organisations for example upper mount Gravatt state school is involved with kids hope which is a church community who came in help mentor the children. This could also help with the emotional , social and intelligence levels which align within the school policy and mission
