Community development/engagement is interest to me and is important because it increases the likelihood that projects or solutions will be widely accepted which means citizens(students, staff and teachers) who participate in these processes show significant commitment to help make the projects happen. It Creates more effective solutions, it draws on local knowledge from a diverse group which creates solutions that are practical and effective. It empowers and integrates people form all sorts of different backgrounds. Creates local networks of community members therefore the more people who know what is going on and who are willing to work towards a goal therefore the community is more likely to be successful in reaching their goals. According to the Queensland government that have found that they above program has helped and with the following quote from the department themselves “As a result of the strategy, the Engaging Queenslanders resources were developed, online engagement initiatives implemented and coordinated training programs rolled out across departments. In 2005, a review of the strategy showed that it had been effective in building the capability of the public sector to engage with citizens and the community.Community engagement practices are utilised across the Queensland Government to provide citizens with a way to have their say and contribute to important policies, programs and services that affect their lives.” Shows that community development is very important to many people and very important in schools.
Some examples of this being implemented in the school are the kids hops breakfast, fathers day and mothers day stall, Book swap for parents and students to exchange books, toys swap and this is using the same sort of principle as the book swap. There is also a prayer group which is run by the community mothers.

I believe that every citizen deserves good healthcare services regardless of his or her geographical area, income, or race. An underserved community is a community in which people are unable to obtain health care or have limited access to the health care system for different of reasons. These reasons include ethnic background, socioeconomic variables, lower salary in some areas, extreme weather, or other life circumstances that produces an uneven distribution of healthcare resources, including nurses. The individuals in underserved communities lack affordable comprehensive health insurance, have gaps in insurance, or are living in remote areas and unable to access care. I believe that our school initiative can work if all of the components of the action plan are executed properly. Effective communication is the ingredient missing out of our recipe to increase our test scores. Based on our approaches and strategies the students will be able to acquire the skills needed to conquer any hurdle, as an educator I must believe in their progression.
Effective partnerships between families and school emerge from a mutual trust, respect and understanding of each other’s values and goals. By maintaining such partnerships, we create a healthy environment for children to develop. All families have something unique to offer and educators need to recognize this and make the most of it by incorporating all families into the school community.
This engagement must be to involve the stakeholders in the school. The district and school leaders must encourage the community belief that if the school is successful the surrounding community will be successful. Through this partnership the time, talent and treasure of the stakeholders must be solicited to ensure the success of the school. Reciprocity of this investment should be given as well. This is when we need to step up and help the parent and the child so they don’t fall through the cracks of the education system. We need to increase parent involvement in each child education. Increasing parent involvement, begins with education the parents. Parents don’t realize or know how to get involved with their child’s education. There are many ways families can be involved in the education process. The parent is the child’s most valuable teacher for their whole life. The most benefit this will bring to the families is confidence. Teachers need to help the parents know that they can assist in their child’s education and can help them at home. There are workshops and training to help families get involved. The key is to offer incentives to the training to help increase the parent’s attendance, Communication is the one key with the parents. In today’s socially they are many ways to stay in contact with parents because of technology by email, text, or social media. Invite parent to come to the classroom and volunteer and see firsthand what a day look like for their child in the classroom. Have different events that will increase parents interest and eventually great participation. Another idea could be to send home activities that encourages family involvement.
