Introduction

The job of bringing up a child is not a simple one. With the fast paced life we lead, one really has to take out time to be able to live up to the expectations of being a good parent. In addition to the mundane jobs of the daily monotony, there are other facets towards parenting which need serious thought. The need to be able to nurture a child into a confident individual requires a fair amount of encouragement and nurturing from the parents.

Sensitivity of children

A child’s confidence is something which is built with over a period of time and a lot depends on the manner in which the parents interact with a child. A child is under constant supervision of the parents and the kind of environment which a child grows up in has a lot to do with the kind of personality he or she develops. There are many ways to bring up a child, but the decision of the most apt one is something which has to be considered by the parents depending on a number of situations. A child is very sensitive to the environment around him. A small snub from an adult might send the child into a crying fit. While many parents follow the ‘Spare the rod and spoil the child’ prophecy, many feel that such measures are detrimental to the growth of the child’s personality.

Need for encouragement

A child is like a soft mould which can be casted in any form. In the formative years, there are many instances when the parents are faced with situations, wherein the child is taking up activities or doing tasks which are new for the child.
