Since they came in the USA, we had a couple of family-related issues in Bangladesh and therefore they had to travel back to Bangladesh multiple times between the year 2008 and 2012. In 2012, they applied for a re-entry permit, and this permit allowed them to stay in Bangladesh for a longer period. After almost year of watching me struggle he insisted that I talk to my doctor. The process of obtaining temporary residency in the United States requires several steps from hopeful immigrants pertaining to age, education, and future potential. It is necessary for immigrant children to have resided in the United States before the age of 16 in order to be eligible for assistance (The DREAM Act). “These men, women or children must have lived in the United States for at least five years prior to the legislation’s enactment.” The immigrant must be a recipient of a high school diploma or a General Education Development diploma (GED), and under the age of 35 when applying for the DREAM ACT (The DREAM Act). Immigrating to the United States in not a simple process. Millions immigrate to America but many millions more are denied a visa or forced to cross the border illegally because of the limited number of applicants that the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services, now a department of Homeland Security, provides as well as the extremely stringent process that is imposed upon migrating applicants. Even getting a simple tourist visa can be a tiring ordeal and beyond reach of most foreign citizens who are not wealthy. This results in numbers of people who are forced to look for other means such as resorting to coyotes, people who smuggle people into America, or corporate coyotes, "executives who would sanction the smuggling of illegal immigrants" (Talton). In the last decade the attitude towards migration, especially in the Southwest, has worsened as many Americans blame illegal immigrants for causing economic hardships and fear diversification to American culture. "Immigrants, particularly so-called 'illegal' immigrants and their children, were represented as depleting both California's fiscal and natural resources" (Lindsley p. 176). The downside is that many Americans have required that fewer immigrants be admitted as well as imposing a more stringent application process and a return to a quota system based on one's national origins. The current system, after the Immigration Reform Act of 1965, created a process where visas are issued on a first come, first served basis that promotes allowing the immigration of family members (Small p. 52).
Immigrants must overcome many barriers to succeed in America. First, migrants frequently must learn a new language. Inability to communicate is a critical barrier for accessing the health care system (Urrutia-Rojas, Marshall, Trevino, Lurie, & Minguia-Bayona, 2006). Second, the processes of work and schooling for themselves and their families can be daunting. Lastly, immigrants use the established social network of longer duration residents for reference and knowledge (Nandi, Galea, Lopez, Nandi, Strongarone, & Ompad, 2008). For purposes of this report, there are three different types of immigrant: legal, undocumented, and refugees or persons seeking asylum. All three types of residents want to succeed and achieve their personal dream.
Immigration is a major part of what defines America. Today, more than 42.4 million Americans are immigrants. These immigrants were allowed to come to America because of a certain established immigration policy, particularly the Immigration Act of 1965. The Immigration Act of 1965 continues to dominate US immigration policy even today. This Act was created at the same time of the Civil Rights Movement where minorities fought for their voice and sparked much controversy. While some people reacted negatively at the passing of the Act, many people thought of the 1965 Immigration Act as a part of the Civil Rights Movement since it abolished the Quota System.
In recent headlines, the H-1B visa has come become a debatable topic. The number of visas distributed to skilled workers (H-1B) and who receives them, and whether the United States should increase or decrease the amount. Currently, the H-1B visa system is structure to administer 65,000 H-1B visas (Services, H-1B Fiscal Years (FY) 2014 Cap Season). According to the United States Citizenship and Immigration, 124,000 petitions were received during the 2013 fiscal year. (Services, H-1B Fiscal Years (FY) 2014 Cap Season). Some are suggesting that we need more skilled immigrant labor within our country for innovative and entrepreneurial exploration, while others are opposed to such a change and would prefer a decrease in the number of H-1B visas distributed, or are content with the current number of visas distributed. Such a decision requires research, and investigating in order to make a sound decision, on what is the best option. This paper discusses the purpose of H-1B visas, the main participants, the policy issue with the number of H-1B visas distributed, policy options and their costs and benefits, the importance, and the economic implications .
The United States of America is the best place for immigration. The history proved that the United States was the dream land, the place of chances. That started when Europeans escaped form their countries because there were no jobs and no safe places to live. America became the best choice for people who were looking for political asylum, jobs, or freedom, but after a few generations something changed the Americans look to immigrants as strangers and they forgot where they are from because America is multicultural place and immigration movement should be understandable, but this is not the case. Governments should develop good laws for immigrants by giving rights to immigrants to stay in America, to protect them, and to allow people who deserve to come to America.

At a young age, my teachers and parents taught me to believe that I could do and accomplish anything that I set my mind to. I grew up thinking that I was unstoppable and that the only limit to my achievements was the sky. However, during my second year in high school, I began to realize that I was not as unstoppable as I had thought. I am an immigrant well, kind of; I wasn 't born here, but then again I wasn 't raised anywhere else. My parents brought me over when I was a child so they would be the immigrants since they made the decision to come here; I was kind of brought along. The year was 1994, I was 3(three) years old and my family and I had just been offered the opportunity to come to the U.S. my parents took it leaving everything behind. We were one of the lucky ones; our process was clean and simple. My dad worked for a religious organization, the Seventh Day Adventist Union in the Dominican Republic, as a canvasser; he sold books related to health and ministry. It’s been almost seven years now things have changed there too much. I was expecting and waiting that the U.S government will make some kind of amnesty program for people like me who just want their kids to live in a safe place and a life free of fear so I can make them a good human being so they can serve the country who has given them the opportunity to thrive in their live. So they can give back to society, so they can put smiles on some other people. But with left no hope here I’m applying a late asylum. As an immigrant who moved to the states for several years, I used to pay no attention to any immigration laws, however, many of my Chinese friend who is a foreign student here in the States has gone through lots of struggles to legally work and stay in the United States. So I started to pay attention to the immigration laws, and I found it interesting that immigration actually is a huge issue here in the state, simply because that United States is a well-known immigration country. Citizens do pay closely attentions to the immigration laws.
Being a first generation American is a wonderful blessing in many ways, you can strive for opportunities that were probably not available to your parents and you have a lot of control in the way you wish to lead your life. It can also be a great burden however; a lot can be expected of you. My parents immigrated to the United States after living seven difficult years in Jordan as refugees. They fled their home country of Iraq to Jordan with nothing but the clothes on their backs and me as a 6-month old child to escape imminent war. I witnessed my parents make great sacrifices during our time in Jordan, sacrifices they made just for the greater good of their children. So when the United Nations finally granted my family refuge into the United States my parents understood the magnitude of this great blessing.
I was born in San Jose, Costa Rica, and moved to California when I was very young. Before I moved to California my dad traveled back and forth for 2 or 3 yrs from California and back to Costa Rica. He spent most of his time working in the Fresno area, in the cities of Tulare, and Visalia. He says he spent his time working in any available job including some farm labor jobs and went back to Costa Rica to spend time with us. After the second time he left Costa Rica to come and work he did not go back. At that time, amnesty was given to immigrants in California, and he moved up north to the Bay area to find a steady job. That is when he saved enough money for my mother, my two siblings, and I to join him in California.
